WHY WE NEED YOU!
We need to make some noise, nonviolent but LOUD noise if we’re going to have any chance of stopping the BLM’s old growth tree grab in our Williams Creek watershed. They made noise in Eugene and stopped the US Forest Service’s “Flat Country” logging sale adjacent to the Mt. Washington wilderness. The USFS has called off that sale and is reworking it to save the old growth forest.
Why did the USFS back down on their plan that included logging of old growth forest? Because people made noise, lots of locals protested loud and often and it worked!
How do we know the BLM is planning to cut old growth trees? The Williams Community Forest Project has hired a forest monitor with the financial support of the community, over $20,000 raised. And our monitor in collaboration with other local forestry experts has walked the proposed logging area and documented not only the old growth trees that are targeted but identified the proposed cut areas that threaten wildlife and water quality.
Why do we think we can succeed in stopping this old growth tree grab by the BLM? Because it worked in neighboring Eugene in a similar situation, they made noise. And secondly because the President has ordered that all government agencies that have land under their jurisdiction must inventory the old growth trees and work to preserve them. This reason was specifically stated in the USFS statement about the cancellation of their project and it applies equally herein Williams.
Why do we need to preserve these old growth trees? The reasons are numerous but one of the big issues is the very significant trapping of carbon, CO2, in these old trees. The big old trees are also fire resistant and help to protect out watershed and community from devastating fires. Another big one is the preservation of habitats for our wildlife neighbors including fish in the downstream watershed.

Please sign the following petition if you have not and if you have thank you. Duplicate signatures will not be a problem. The petition asks BLM to cancel Late Mungers, the 7500 acre timber management sale in Williams that is slated to occur on May 25th. The sale includes 830 acres commercial logging, creating 2 acre clearcuts and reducing the canopy to 30%. The possibility of reducing our water supply is high when the soil drys out.
Please sign the petition and thank you!

Stop Late Mungers Timber Sale - Mature Forests are Worth More Standing!
AN EARTHY THANK YOU WILLIAMS
Thank you community and friends for the great turnout on Earth Day! Williams Community Forest Project raised about $3,500 from your donations and purchases of food and drinks. This money will be used for several programs but the most important one is paying our qualified forest monitor, Tyanna Smith. The picture below is Tyanna measuring a huge Jeffrey Pine found up in the Mungers Creek area slated by the BLM for a timber sale May 26th. Her work is supporting the legal complaint that has been filed by 4 of our southern Oregon sister organizations against the BLM to stop what we and many others believe is the illegal sale.
Other expenses incurred by the WCFP and supported by your donations include costs associated with the maintenance of the Layton Ditch Trail, support for preparation of response documents related to BLM and USFS management of our Applegate lands and some minor administrative expenses of the organization.
Again, thank you 🙏 community for helping us protect our precious watersheds.
Sincere thanks from,
Williams Community Forest Project and all the flora and fauna in our awesome watershed

HELP! The BLM is going to sell big trees and reduce the forest canopy to 30% of what it is now endangering the watershed that supplies Williams with its only source of water, and water means life. Help us stop Williams from becoming a dead valley!! Protests work as has been demonstrated recently in the Eugene watershed, the harmful timber sale was stopped there.
