Learn to identify the trees in your area.
The easiest way to do so is to study the leaves in late spring and summer. In my opinion, the most useful trees of Britain are oak, ash, birch, beech, willow and hazel.

feelings about how nonparticipation in harmful money and government things is in seeming dissonance with needing one’s individual life to flow:
needing, and knowing I am needing, that metaphysical nonparticipation from really everyone,
in effect, trying to communicate about it all to anyone nearby, so much.
And then trying to do that in their languages but that hurts a lot too.
All compounded over time. Painful, a specific set of trauma things.
So! There that is.
I’ve studied various exemplars irl.
They walk a further-out line of non/participation
Mostly those best able to divest have been men who own and use tools and can live with little money, pull off occasional paid professional work despite disablements and generally could ~safely live in isolation like wilderness camp so that’s interesting.
Many, (most?)
Free/wyld/disabled/magicals/sensitives
Ppl alive on the fringes (sometimes in plain sight) and purposefully limit their contact with money… or practice deeply around work-dollar exchanges.
Commonly the rest, if they have resourcing at any tenable level they are relying on social security and other programs - there are many many in that boat, and they are disabled / enclosed in additional ways by participating with such programs. Let’s not forget that people are commonly pushed into using these programs by their community members who do not get the harms inherent.
I am straddling the fence between gifting with my communities and program-dependance , which is also fairly common.
As far as fluid folk, plurals, and/or women, I have seen most ‘alternative’ economic (in the sense of getting needs met by community) success either through more participation in ongoing local community economies, basically exchanging work, goods a-o dollars in some combination, with other locals - basically operating one or more small businesses.
or else high-dollar spurts of paid work (this mostly for yougers/nomads). Sometimes this is done as a mutual pre-arranged gifting, and is basically a transaction with any desired honorable communication added.
As far as strategies to reduce participation in capitalism -
I have practiced much gift economy and been more locational myself…
pulsing into scenes to make money like at a festival, say with the ‘mobile chai palace’ is interesting as a transitional strategy, but there’s ick to navigate at scale, so we have increasingly done smaller events and our own events where we can do things like bring cups to wash instead of paper ones to use once.
Even when making the best possible sourcing choices as stewards of an economic enterprise, one is often seemingly forced to compromise shared foundational values like beyond-zero-waste….
There are ways… we innovate… we look at what other radical caring ppl are doing…
In operating our Tea LLC, for example, we found many ways to get the agents and system to allow things, like nontoxic sanitizing.
that’s rainbow magic at work, if your ideas are better and fit criteria they can’t say no….
But it was still terrible. I prefer operating ‘underground’. I’m not sure I can or will make the tea a business-related product again….
We can’t deny that our WFP work brought us to see we must focus on building relationships. Getting sucked back into something else isn’t really an option anymore.
It’s a transitional strategy itself, the tea - we can make it until most people can make their own… this tea we intend and sing to call humans into relationships with their bodies, and with plants and herbalists….
But, we found we couldn’t/wouldn’t perform the necessary signalling to be heard much by those with power to put the tea on their shelves to reach the people.
So we started being more focused on who we collaborated with, and we discovered that the people thinking to do things like us are all relatively disabled, and the ones that are into our work and our story who have greater mainstream access might also be considered disabled, relationally….

Bridging is needed, but not for the purpose of us to perform and win at the pretending-to-be-successful-and-able game.
Rather, bridging is needed for all of us to come home to being on this earth together right now.
I trust we CAN do the right things.

Purple Dead Nettle (Lamium purpureum) and Henbit (Lamium amplexicaule) identification & uses 💜
Botanical observation
When we look at a plant, we can observe the following:
If it is a Seedling - does it have one or two cotyledons (baby leaves)?
What shape and color are they?
Stems-
Color
Woody or tender?
Vining?
Waxy?
Leaves -
Entire or compound
Shape - lance, heart, oval, etc
Edges - smooth, scalloped, deeply cut, etc
Texture
Thickness
Color sun-side, color ground-side
Are various parts hairy or smooth?
(Leaves, stem)
Soft and Fuzzy? Large hairs?
Thorns?
Growth habit-
Upright or trailing?
Single stems or branching?
Roots- (if it is disturbed or you dig one up)
Rhizome and rootlets, or
Tap root or fine roots?
Single roots or branching?
These are all things one can observe before the plant blooms.

Aspalathus linearis, meaning "red bush", is a broom-like member of the plant family Fabaceae that grows in South Africa's fynbos.
We have related plants here and I am curious…. tho They are cousins not siblings so to speak, and I don’t just taste things I’m not sure of that belong to the pea family because it’s a mixed bag whether fabaceae (pea family plants) are safe to eat.
Both rooibos and scotch broom are in the pea family; they also share their bushy broom habit with ephedra species, which are in a different plant taxonomy galaxy altogether - they are gymnosperms like conifers!
The former two plants also look similar to forsythia, which is a bushy yellow-flowering shrub in the olive family.
(Gymnosperms do not produce fruit around their seeds. So, Ephedra does not have those fine yellow flowers, tho it is quite striking in appearance.
—> angiosperms, which make fruit around their seeds, include most of the plants we know! including trees and grasses. Yay plants that we eat!)
Plants are so cool.
