“I will not stop speaking up for the people of Palestine.” These were the words of Within Our Lifetime’s Chair and Founder Nerdeen Kiswani after local and federal authorities disrupted an assassination plot against her by a 26-year-old Zionist named Alexander Heifler.

As Palestinians and supporters of Palestine around the world have rallied around her in a show of unwavering support, her words continue to move us all to action in defense of Gaza, in defense of Palestine, and in defense of all those who raise their voices for freedom, justice and return.

According to the Associated Press, Heifler is affiliated with an offshoot of the Jewish Defense League named JDL 613 Brotherhood. In January 2026, the group posted a death threat against her and her baby. In response she declared, “The JDL, a Zionist terrorist organization, is openly threatening me and my child, saying they’re watching us and will ‘make sure we don’t exist’ in the US. I take these threats seriously because I remember the JDL assassinated Palestinian activist Alex Odeh in California in 1985.”

The assassination plot against Nerdeen was disrupted just weeks after she filed a lawsuit against Betar, another Zionist organization connected to the JDL who has threatened and incited attacks against our comrade for years.

From the JDL to Betar, Nerdeen has been exposing these threats for years, only to be met with no institutional recognition, action or accountability.

“This lawsuit is about more than me,” Nerdeen declared after filing the suit in February 2026. “It is about ensuring that Zionist organizations cannot stalk, threaten, and attempt to physically intimidate Palestinians and our allies with impunity.”
