DISRUPT COMMENCEMENT! ALL OUT TO COLUMBIA, TOMORROW 🇵🇸

📍Columbia University 116th/ Broadway
🗓️ Wednesday, May 21st
🕙 10:00 AM

Columbia’s largest investment of the year cannot go undisrupted! These events have never been for the students — just another advertising opportunity for the University. It’s why they’ll lock down and militarize campus, search bags, and ban students acting for Palestine despite popular support for divestment!

Gaza is facing conditions of starvation and mass death as Israel, with the full support of the US, expands the ground invasion and continues to weaponize aid. Meanwhile Columbia University has done nothing but demonize, endanger, and aid in the deportation of any student who protests genocide.

We say firmly: there can be no graduation as usual while Columbia University remains complicit through providing investment, research, and ideological cover to genocide while repressing those who stand on the right side of history.

🚨 NOISE DEMO + PICKET LINE
WEDNESDAY 5/21
TIME:
12-2pm (lunch break)
LOCATION: Outside BNYDC's financial hub (Building 77) at 141 Flushing Ave., which houses Easy Aerial war criminals and the offices of those leasing to genocide profiteers.

THE WEAPONS USED BY THE "ISRAELI" MILITARY ARE BEING MADE ON YOUR DOORSTEP. YOU CAN STOP THE WAR MACHINE, IF YOU CHOOSE TO. We call on all community members to join the PICKET LINE + NOISE DEMO to shut down Easy Aerial and Crye Precision who supply drones and tactical gear to the "israeli" Occupation Forces that have been used to murder Palestinians. From every corner of the U.S. empire, it is our duty to rise for Palestine to disrupt and dismantle the genocide supply chain.

Bring your comrades, noise makers, signs and RAGE!⁩

At today’s Brooklyn College graduation at the Barclays Center, dozens of Palestinian and allied students planned to carry the Palestinian flag across the stage—a proud and peaceful tradition seen at graduations for years. But they were met with racially and religiously targeted searches: only visibly Arab and Muslim students were singled out. Flags were confiscated, students detained, and families harassed—some nearly kicked out—for demanding their belongings back. Barclays security, backed by CUNY, went so far as to snatch flags from students mid-ceremony.

Even as Commencement Speaker Jumaane Williams invoked a hollow “both sides” framing, the reality was clear: Palestinian students—whose families are enduring a genocide, whose universities in Gaza have been obliterated, whose people are denied the very graduations others take for granted—were punished for carrying the symbol of their existence.

This wasn’t just a violation of free expression. It was an act of state-aligned repression against students who dared to hold Palestine close, even on the most personal, hard-earned day of celebration.

Today marks five years since George Floyd was murdered in cold blood by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on May 25, 2020, sparking a nationwide uprising that echoed around the world, from Minnesota to New York City to Palestine, and beyond.

Across Palestine, murals honoring George Floyd and connecting the Black liberation struggle in the U.S. to the struggle for Palestinian liberation appeared from the West Bank to Gaza. In Gaza City, Palestinian artist Ayman Alhossary painted this mural in the weeks that followed Floyd’s murder in June 2020.

Alhossary created the mural in collaboration with the youth collective We Are Not Numbers, which was co-founded by the poet and martyr Refaat Alareer.

On May 25, 2021, Refaat tweeted, “From Palestine, Rest in peace, George Floyd!” In October 2023 he wrote “George Floyd was all over the walls in occupied Palestine 🇵🇸, from Gaza to the West Bank. Palestinians have supported Black Lives Matter…Meanwhile, Israel trains American police to kill Black people.”

From Refaat, from our martyrs, from Gaza to the world — the fight against genocide, racism, zionism and oppression will continue, until liberation within our lifetime.

On the 25th anniversary of Liberation Day in South Lebanon, when the heroic Lebanese people expelled the zionist entity following decades of occupation, the slogan “Today Lebanon, Tomorrow Palestine” continues to guide our people forward on the path to liberation and return.

May 25, 2000 marked the first time in history that the Arab masses, through steadfast resistance, liberated their lands from zionist occupation. This victory demonstrated that through protracted struggle against zionism and imperialism, freedom is possible. At a moment where Arab leaders are capitulating to zionism and US empire while abandoning Gaza and Palestine, the lesson of the liberation of South Lebanon is more important today than ever.

Until all our people are free, all our lands have been liberated, Lebanon, Palestine, and all colonized and oppressed people around the world will continue to fight for freedom and resist occupation and injustice. 🇱🇧🇵🇸
