Today marks five years since George Floyd was murdered in cold blood by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on May 25, 2020, sparking a nationwide uprising that echoed around the world, from Minnesota to New York City to Palestine, and beyond.

Across Palestine, murals honoring George Floyd and connecting the Black liberation struggle in the U.S. to the struggle for Palestinian liberation appeared from the West Bank to Gaza. In Gaza City, Palestinian artist Ayman Alhossary painted this mural in the weeks that followed Floyd’s murder in June 2020.

Alhossary created the mural in collaboration with the youth collective We Are Not Numbers, which was co-founded by the poet and martyr Refaat Alareer.

On May 25, 2021, Refaat tweeted, “From Palestine, Rest in peace, George Floyd!” In October 2023 he wrote “George Floyd was all over the walls in occupied Palestine 🇵🇸, from Gaza to the West Bank. Palestinians have supported Black Lives Matter…Meanwhile, Israel trains American police to kill Black people.”

The "israeli" occupation committed a brutal massacre by bombing the Fahmi Al-Jarjawi School, which shelters thousands of displaced people in Al-Daraj neighborhood, Gaza, killing 31 martyrs, including 18 children and 6 women, in addition to dozens of others wounded with varying injuries. We condemn these "US-backed israeli" atrocities, along with the ban on the entry of fuel, food and medicine — all of which exacerbate the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.

These two consecutive dates build on each other. The first wave on June 14th amplifies the actual global march to Gaza setting out in Egypt and brings it to NYC connecting with local efforts already being done. The second wave on June 21st begins from all the boroughs and the local organizing, guided by Palestine, and converges throughout the day. We will march the length of Gaza.

This week alone, “Israeli” occupation forces have turned Gaza’s food lines into execution zones, unleashing a wave of mass shootings at aid distribution sites. On Monday, June 9, 14 people were murdered and 99 wounded in Rafah when “Israeli” gunmen opened fire on civilians waiting for food. The day before, on June 8, two separate attacks killed at least 17 more people, including five martyred on the spot and 12 later ascending. On June 5, a military drone strike targeted the garden of Al‑Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, ripping through the grounds and martyring five people, including three journalists and a father accompanying his son. One of the fallen was photojournalist Ahmad Qalja, who later succumbed to his injuries, bringing the death toll to four journalists killed in a single attack. The strike also wounded around 30 others. The message is clear: every path to survival is under attack, and these attacks are facilitated by drones created in our backyard.

THE WEAPONS USED BY THE "ISRAELI" MILITARY ARE BEING MADE ON OUR DOORSTEP. WE CAN STOP THE WAR MACHINE, IF WE CHOOSE TO.
