For the second year in a row, we mark Eid Al-Fitr not in celebration, but in rage and mourning. As our brothers and sisters in Gaza continue to suffer from malnutrition, starvation, and disease, as they break their fasts on the rubble of their homes and Masjids, as they continue to be martyred day in and day out in relentless israeli airstrikes with U.S.-made bombs paid for with our taxes, there is nothing to celebrate.
Writing on Friday from Gaza, Palestinian journalist Abubaker Abed reflected, βI wonder how you will celebrate when the essence of celebration has been absent from our lives for nearly two years. How can you wear your finest clothes while we are wrapped in shrouds? How can you enjoy sweets while the children in my neighborhood draw food in the sand? How can you go to the mosque, having witnessed the destruction and desecration of nearly 1,000 mosques in Gaza? And how can you visit your loved ones and rejoice at home while we stand in grief by the graves of our family members and dear ones?β

These are the questions we must ask ourselves, today and every day.
This year, Eid Al-Fitr falls on Land Day (Yom al-Ard), which embodies the history of our peopleβs struggle in defense of our land, and our struggle to liberate it and return to it.
From March 30th, 1976 when six Palestinians were martyred on the first Land Day while resisting the theft of Palestinian lands in al-Jalil, to 2018 when thousands of Palestinians in Gaza marched on the border fence and 17 people were murdered by israeli snipers on the first day of the Great Return March. This year, Land Day and Eid arrive at a time when the entire region β from Lebanon to Yemen β will mark these days under the weight of grief and rage, as the zionist-American entity continues to massacre their people and turn their homes to rubble.
In the northern West Bank, the Jenin, Nour Shams, and Tulkarem refugee camps have been facing ongoing destruction and displacement, rendering their homes completely uninhabitable due to the ongoing siege and aggression carried out by both the occupation and the Palestinian Authority forces. This is the heavy price paid for standing on the front lines for complete liberation.
Today we are reminded that the struggle for Gaza is not just a fight to end the ongoing genocide. It is not just a fight to end the siege and blockade. It is not just a fight to free our prisoners. It is not just a fight to stop the targeting of hospitals, of healthcare workers, of journalists. It is not just a fight to end all U.S. military aid to the zionist entity.
The struggle for Gaza is the struggle of Palestine. It is the struggle for full liberation from the river to the sea. It is the struggle of our parents, and of our grandparents, of all those who came before us.
And is this struggle that we commit ourselves to, as Palestinians in exile, as Muslims, as people of conscience living in the belly of the beast. For freedom, justice and return within our lifetime.π΅πΈ

βNo Eid without you, Dadβ β This past week on March 25th, the zionist entityβs illegitimate courts extended Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyaβs indefinite detention without charge or trial for another 6 months. Rather than celebrating Eid, his family posted a drawing of him on social media today with the caption βNo Eid without you, Dad.β
After being abducted by israeli occupation forces 93 days ago on December 27th 2024, Dr. Hussam, a pediatrician and the Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia in Northern Gaza, was first imprisoned in the notorious Sde Teiman torture camp in the Naqab, and then transferred weeks later on January 9th to Ofer prison in the occupied West Bank.

Since his abduction, Dr. Hussam was denied access to his lawyers for 45 days and has been subjected to intense torture including being forcibly stripped, forced to sit on sharp stones for hours, beaten with electric shocks and batons and thrown in solitary confinement for 25 days. As a result of this torture and physical abuse he has suffered multiple broken ribs and a severe eye injury. At one point he lost consciousness in his cell due to severe breathing difficulties. Dr. Hussam also suffers from heart muscle enlargement, and has requested access to healthcare from IOF on several occasions - requests that have been continuously denied.
Today we join Dr. Hussamβs family in calling for his immediate release and freedom, along with the freedom of all imprisoned Palestinian health care workers and the over 10,000 political prisoners unjustly jailed by the genocidal zionist occupation.

Today on the first day of Eid, at least 70 Palestinians were martyred in Gaza. As journalist Anas Al Sharif reported, "Not an hour has passed without israeli shelling or targeting of civilian homes" with most of the martyrs being "children who were killed while wearing their Eid clothes." "The airstrikes that hit Gaza tonight," he added, "were unlike anything witnessed since the beginning" of the ongoing genocide.
On this Eid of Rage, the bodies of fourteen martyred rescue workers were also recovered in Rafah after they were targeted and massacred by occupation forces on March 23rd while attempting to save the lives of wounded Palestinians. Eight of the martyrs were paramedics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society, five were members of the Palestinian Civil Defence, and one was a UN employee.

For the past week, their fate was unknown after contact with them was cut off and zionist forces blocked rescue teams coordinated by the UN from reaching them. On Friday the PRCS discovered the four ambulance vehicles belonging to the missing rescue teams βcompletely destroyed and buried in the sand.β The bodies of the martyred rescue workers were also found buried in the sand, in what PRCS condemned as a βpremeditated crime,β raising questions as to whether they were murdered by IOF in field executions and then buried to conceal the massacre.
The names of the martyred paramedics from the PRCS are Mustafa Khafaja, Ezzedine Shaβat, Saleh Moammar, Rifaat Radwan, Mohammad Behloul, Ashraf Abu Labda, Mohammad Al-Hila, and Raed Al-Sharif. A ninth PRCs paramedic named Asaad Al-Nasasra is still missing.
In a statement released today, the PalestineRCS declared βThis massacre of our team is a tragedy not only for us at the Palestine Red Crescent Society, but also for humanitarian work and humanity.β

This all comes just days after the body of the martyr Anwar Al-Attar, the head of the Rafah Civil Defence, was recovered on Friday, and a week after IOF bombed Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, targeting the second floor of the surgical building with airstrikes, resulting in a massive fire breaking out and the martyrdom of five Palestinians, with many more injured. On Friday, March 21st, IOF also blew up Gazaβs only specialized cancer treatment hospital, the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, as well as an adjacent medical school. The destruction of the hospital left thousands of Palestinian cancer patients with nowhere to go for treatment.
As hospitals, healthcare workers and patients remain under siege and bombardment, as families are being massacred during Eid, we condemn the ongoing genocidal attacks on our people and demand an end to the blockade of all aid into Gaza to allow for critical supplies to reach those fighting to save lives in the face of death and destruction.

βThis scene represents one of the most brutal massacres Gaza has witnessed in modern historyβ β According to testimony from the rescue team that recovered the bodies yesterday of the 15 Palestinian paramedics and rescue workers from the Palestine Red Crescent Society, Palestinian Civil Defence and United Nations who were massacred in Rafah on March 23rd, the martyred first responders were executed one by one by israeli occupation forces and then buried in a mass grave alongside their ambulances by a bulldozer.
Anwar al-Attar, a member of the Palestinian Civil Defence whose body was the first to be recovered on March 28th, was found shot in the head and chest, with his "vest and helmet punctured by over 20 bullet holes." The rescue team also stated that at least one of the martyrs had their legs bound while others were found handcuffed. According to a spokesperson for the rescue team, βThis scene represents one of the most brutal massacres Gaza has witnessed in modern history.β

The executions of the first responders on March 23rd took place as occupation forces carried out other mass executions of Palestinian civilians in Rafah over the past week, with young men being rounded up in ditches and shot at point-blank range and children being murdered in front of their mothers, according to survivors who recounted the horrors they endured and witnessed to journalists.
In the past 18 months during the ongoing genocide in Gaza the zionist entity has targeted and murdered at least 105 members of the Palestinian Civil Defence, 27 Palestine Red Crescent paramedics, 284 UN agency staff and nearly 1,400 healthcare workers. In the past two weeks alone since March 18th, over 1,000 Palestinians have been martyred in relentless israeli airstrikes and shelling extending from the north of Gaza to the south.

In light of these harrowing details, and as Rafah is now facing forced evacuation orders from the genocidal zionist entity, with thousands of Palestinians fleeing on foot, we reiterate that the blood of the martyred first responders, and of all the martyrs being displaced and massacred day in and day out, is on the hands of every last politician, elected official, and zionist organization in the U.S. that has spent the last year and a half attempting to defend, normalize and whitewash the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
WOL joins the families of the martyred paramedics and rescue workers and the families of all of the martyrs who spent Eid burying their loved ones in honoring their memories as we continue to struggle to end the genocide, end the siege and blockade, and for liberation and return within our lifetime.π΅πΈ
