November 30, has been declared Venezuela Day in the United States.

🇻🇪🇬🇾 The ICJ rules in favor of Guyana and orders Venezuela to avoid taking actions that change the current situation in Essequibo:

"Until a final decision on the controversy is adopted, Venezuela will refrain from taking any measure that modifies the situation of the territory under the administration of Guyana."

Thus, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) recognizes that Guyana administers and controls the Essequibo territory.

The ICJ further noted that there is a real and imminent risk of irreparable harm to Guyana, and therefore took two provisional measures:

1) Venezuela must refrain from carrying out actions that modify the current situation of the disputed territory.

2) Both parties must avoid actions that aggravate or extend the dispute.

"One of the measures requested by Guyana is to prevent Venezuela from taking the territory (Essequibo); the Court considers that measure acceptable. There is a risk of harm to Guyana (…) the conditions for provisional measures are met," the judge read.

There were no measures against the holding of the consultative referendum called by the Venezuelan government.

However, the ICJ issued the following provisional measures regarding the El Essequibo controversy:
Until a final decision on the controversy is adopted, Venezuela will refrain from taking any measure that modifies the situation of the territory under the administration of Guyana .
