🇹🇷 A Sad Day: Erdoğan Signs Decree Transforming Hagia Sophia into a Mosque

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has formally converted Hagia Sophia into a mosque. This comes after the country's highest administrative court revoked a law that was passed in 1935 which assigned the building its until now status as a museum.

The iconic building, constructed in the 6th century under the reign of Justinian the Great, was in its inception the prime symbol of Christian civilization – namely Greek Orthodoxy – until its capture by the Ottomans in 1453 when it was converted into a mosque.

Centuries later, under Turkish President Kemal Atatürk's secularist reforms, the cathedral was turned into a museum. That all changed today with Erdoğan’s decree.

Let us all pray that Hagia Sophia is restored to its former glory by being transfered to its rightful owners: the Greeks. Whether through shrewd diplomacy or more likely bloodshed, we shall reclaim this phenomenal Orthodox cathedral ☦💪🏻
