🚩 A Venezuelan businessman linked to Chavismo killed his three-year-old son and then took his own life in Miami

Authorities in Florida, United States, are investigating the deaths of Venezuelan-American businessman José Manuel Gonzalez Testino, 53, and his 3-year-old son on Tuesday night in an apartment in Coconut Grove, Miami.

Officials who found the lifeless bodies in the luxurious home at 2669 South Bayshore Drive in Miami estimate that, based on how they observed the gunshot wounds, it would have been a homicide followed by a suicide.

In 2018, Testino had been detained at the Miami International Airport for bribing an official of the Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) company in exchange for favorable business treatment. The businessman controlled multiple companies and was accused in the US of conspiring to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

According to a criminal complaint filed in the Southern District of Texas, Testino and an accomplice paid at least $629,000 in bribes to a former PDVSA official in exchange for him taking steps to “direct” oil company projects to their companies, give them priority when it comes to receiving payments and granting PDVSA contracts in US dollars instead of Venezuelan bolivars.

The local press also points out that Testino was collaborating with the US justice system in investigations into a corruption scheme linked to PDVSA and its US subsidiary, Citgo.

NGO SOS Orinoco organization denounced this Thursday, March 2, through a video posted on Twitter that 3,200 hectares of the Yapacana National Park, in the state of Amazonas, are poisoned and deforested with mercury.

They affirmed that in the area there are 86 gold extraction machines on top of the tepuy. They added that this business, outside the law, occurs with the approval of the current national government and the previous one, with the consent of the Venezuelan military and the Colombian guerrilla.

Likewise, the organization indicated that the Yapacana National Park is the most affected by illegal mining in the entire country.

According to SOS Orinoco, there are at least 8,000 mining intervention points throughout the park. Of these, 350 are located at the top of the Tepuy.

In an ordinary session of the Delegate Commission of the National Assembly elected in 2015, held this Thursday, March 2, Romel Guzamana expressed that they have denounced the situation of the Yapacana National Park whenever they can.

“This hill is a natural monument that has a lot of gold and is one of the richest National Parks in Latin America,” he said.
