🇵🇪 Peru's government extends the state of emergency to almost two months after the departure of Pedro Castillo

The Government of Peru extended the state of emergency that it had already decreed in some regions due to the increase in protests against President Dina Boluarte.

The decree, published on February 5 in the official newspaper El Peruano, was released one day after a massive demonstration took place in Lima, in which clashes between protesters and security forces were reported.

The document declares a state of emergency for 60 days in Cusco, Puno, Apurímac, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna, "in order to prevail security and social peace."

🇵🇪 Peru's government sentences 27 people for social protests

A total of 27 people were sentenced for "acts of vandalism" in Ica, Peru, committed during the protests taking place in the Andean country to demand the resignation of President Dina Boluarte.

🗨 "They received convictions of more than three years in prison and are required to pay civil reparations for an amount greater than 50,000 soles (about $12,990)," the Ministry of the Interior said in a statement.

Additionally, 22 people received pretrial detention while they are being prosecuted for "violent acts" in different regions of the country, the institution reported.
