Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who is believed to have been living in hiding in her country, will travel to Norway next week to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, according to a Norwegian official.

"I have been in contact with Machado and she has confirmed that she will be in Oslo for the ceremony," said Kristian Berg Harpviken, director of the Nobel Institute, which helps select the laureates. "Given the security situation, we cannot say anything more about when and how she will arrive."

The trip to Oslo, the capital of Norway, for the ceremony on Wednesday carries significant risks for both Machado and the movement she leads, which has long sought to overthrow Venezuela's authoritarian leader, Nicolás Maduro.

The executive vice president and Minister of Hydrocarbons of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, issued a strong message to oil sector workers, urging them to stay "very alert" against what the government considers an assault on its natural resources.
