🇻🇪⚖️ Luis Ratti ask the TSJ to revoke the nationality of María Corina Machado, other opposition members and journalists

Politician Luis Ratti requested the Supreme Tribunal of Justice to revoke the Venezuelan nationality of 25 exiles, including opposition leader and 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado, and former ambassador Edmundo González. The group also includes Antonio Ledezma, Iván Simonovis, Carla Angola, Nitu Pérez Osuna, and other leaders, journalists, and activists critical of Nicolás Maduro's government.

The request comes two days after Maduro asked the TSJ to withdraw the nationality of Leopoldo López, whom he accuses of promoting sanctions and foreign intervention. According to Ratti, the process seeks to "defend national sovereignty," while opposition members describe it as a political measure intended to punish dissent and silence voices in exile.

🇻🇪 María Corina accuses Maduro of "infiltrating Cuban intelligence" to carry out arrests during peaceful protests in 2024, 2017 and 2014

María Corina Machado denounced that Nicolás Maduro's government implemented "infiltration and Cuban intelligence mechanisms" to identify and detain protesters during the demonstrations following the July 28, 2024 elections and the 2017-2014 protest. She stated that thousands of people were imprisoned in just 24 hours, and some were assaulted or killed for peacefully protesting.

She also pointed out that security forces extended the persecution to the homes of activists and electoral witnesses. “If they couldn’t find the responsible person, they took their relatives: mothers, children, spouses. Even those who posted a photo of me on Instagram or WhatsApp were arrested,” the opposition leader recounted. She denounced that the repression has been labeled as "state terrorism" by international organizations.
🇻🇪 More than 1,000 political prisoners and 172 disappeared persons reported in Venezuela

The NGO Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón reported that 1,067 people remain deprived of liberty for political reasons in Venezuela, which it describes as a “systematic use of arbitrary detention” to repress dissent.

The report also warns of 172 detainees whose whereabouts are unknown, considered forced disappearances. The organization alerted that these figures could be higher and reflect a “sustained increase in political persecution” and the use of the state apparatus for repressive purposes.
