🇪🇨⚠️ Ecuador releases one of the survivors of the U.S. attack on a ‘narcosubmarine’ in the Caribbean

Ecuador released Andrés Fernando Tufiño, a survivor of the U.S. attack on a narcosubmarine on October 16 in the Caribbean. The Ecuadorian Prosecutor's Office determined that there was insufficient evidence to charge him. Tufiño had been captured by the U.S. Navy and deported to Ecuador after the bombing, which left two survivors: Tufiño and Colombian Jeison Obando Pérez.

President Daniel Noboa reaffirmed Ecuador's commitment against drug trafficking and illegal mining. Pérez, on the other hand, remains under medical observation in Colombia, and his prosecution is pending. This attack is part of a series of extrajudicial operations initiated by the U.S. in international Caribbean waters, focused on vessels with alleged drug transport from Venezuela.

The president-elect of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz Pereira, confirmed that he will not invite the leaders of Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua to his inauguration ceremony, scheduled for November 8, considering that "they are not democratic governments."

In an interview with Fernando del Rincón for CNN en Español, Paz was emphatic in responding: "We are a democratic country. While there are diplomatic relations to be respected, our basis for relations is democracy."

The centrist-leaning president-elect added that "clearly the regimes of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua are not democratic."

"I would not want my country to be any of those three," he said.
