The NGO Foro Penal stated that the number of political prisoners has increased considerably since the presidential elections on July 28, comparing the figures of 305 as of July 27 and 1,674 as of August 24, quintupling the figure in less than a month of crisis.

"Political prisoners includes people who remain deprived of their freedom. It does not yet include all those who have been arrested and released or are being held under short-term arrest, for 48 hours,"
