The president of the legislature, Jorge Rodríguez, announced an upcoming reform of the Law on Political Parties, Public Meetings and Demonstrations, aimed at preventing "fascists," referring to opposition leaders, from running for elected office in Venezuela, in connection with the parliamentary and regional elections to be held in 2025.

"The Governments of Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay categorically reject the announcement by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) of Venezuela, which yesterday claimed to have concluded a supposed verification of the results of the July 28 electoral process, issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE), and attempts to validate the baseless results issued by the electoral body.
Our countries had already expressed their rejection of the CNE's declaration, following the denial of access to opposition representatives to the official count, the non-publication of the voting records, and the subsequent refusal to conduct an impartial and independent audit of all of them.
The Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela warned of the lack of independence and impartiality of both institutions, the CNE and the TSJ.
The undersigned countries reiterate that only an impartial and independent audit of the votes, which assesses all the records, will ensure respect for the sovereign popular will and democracy in Venezuela.
Along with the rest of the international democratic community, we will continue to insist on respect for the sovereign expression of the Venezuelan people, who on July 28 spoke out peacefully and decisively.
Likewise, we express our deep concern and rejection of the human rights violations committed against citizens who peacefully demand respect for the people's vote and the restoration of democracy."

— For now, in Brazil, silence prevails. Brazil has been absent from all statements rejecting political persecution in Venezuela and has avoided criticizing Maduro at every opportunity. Lula's smile already shows his concern about the matter.
