Ryan my oldest son went to the Capitol with me last Friday to speak on behalf of HB 425 the energy bill that proclaims energy to be a state jurisdiction. Ryan is leaving tomorrow morning at 6:00 am to go on a special trip with other students to Valley Forge and Independence Hall. I am excited for him. I haven't been to either of those places yet. I am jealous!

One more day of the Legislative session! It is an exhausting time. I am glad it is almost over. Our monthly Zoom call will be Monday, March 6th at 9:00 pm. We will be doing a Legislative wrap up session and discuss bills that passed and some that didn't. I will be posting the Zoom link tomorrow.

I was at the Capitol Tuesday. There were so many school kids there. I hope when the kids are there they feel that there is something very special about our form of government and their patriotism grows. I loved America from the first breath I took.

Jen Savage Chair of Impact Council 15 Brad Wilson

Jen was born in Germany. Her parents were born there. She came from a family of nine kids. When she was twelve they moved to Utah. She had to learn English. She still speaks fluent German. She has four kids, three girls and one boy. She would love to travel to Fiji. She got involved in public policy because of covid. She saw how some of her relatives were being treated in Germany. She knows if we want to keep our liberties we have to fight for them. She has eight members on her Impact Council. They communicate through text. Thank you to Jen for her leadership and service!

Thank you everyone for a great Zoom call last night! We reviewed several bills from the session and talked about things we are going to work on moving forward. Overview from the Legislative session

HB 427 passed -Prohibits the teaching of critical race theory in schools.

SB 291 failed-Prohibits the use of rank choice voting.

SB 171 passed- Allows patients and doctors to use medications off label with patient consent.

HB 529 failed- Allows the health department to have access to shopping records of citizens in certain situations.

SB 55 passed- Requires notification of digital curriculum updates.

SB 227 passed - Allows citizens to file an ethics complaint against a member of a school board.

HB 179 passed- This was run by our organization! Designates September to be Founders' and Constitution month. We have a lot planned so stay tuned!

HB 256 failed- Allows a pregnant lady to drive in the carpool lane.

SB 31 passed- Adopted a new state flag. A citizen referendum has already been started. This means if enough signatures are gathered the new flag would be put on the ballot in November for the citizens to decide on.

HB 153 failed- Would allow a reversible medical condition to qualify for an abortion.

HB 232 passed- Will distribute federalism tracker reports to all of the interim committees.

HB 425 passed- Declares energy to be a state jurisdiction and gives the attorney general the authority to work with the power companies that are being targeted by the EPA.

HB 21 Passed- Requires public comment be held at all school board meetings.

HB 150 passed- Outlines the authority the executive branch has during a water shortage. The version of this bill that passed is much better than what it was originally and reigned in some of the executive control.

SB 200 failed- This bill would have legalized some hallucinogens.

HB 311 passed- Minors under sixteen cannot set up a social media account without parental permission.

HB 131 passed- Prohibits vaccine passports. There are some significant exceptions that include health care workers and government employees.

SB 100 passed- Prohibts a school hiding records from a parent about their child transitioning.

HB 130 passed- Provides for adoption tax credits.

SUGGESTED TALKING POINTS FOR MARCH 7 TO MARCH 18

* I am grateful that HB 529 did not pass. This bill allowed the health department in certain circumstances to have the shopping records of citizens. This bill invades privacy and gives the government access that I don't agree with. Without privacy we do not have freedom.

*HB 252 was an important bill for the Impact Councils. It allows the federalism tracker reports to be distributed to the interim committees. We believe that the consolidation of power in Washington DC is the greatest threat to individual liberty. I sincerely ask you to do all you can to guard the Constitutional line. This is an important tool to help you do that.

* Express your feelings of gratitude that after June 1st, 2024 there will be no more licensed abortion clinics in Utah.

* Share your thoughts about how nefarious critical race theory is. To teach the youth that whites are inherently oppressors and minorities are born to be oppressed is racist.
We will not stand for it in Utah. Now that HB 427 is passed and teaching CRT is illegal in grades K-12, we need to work on higher education. There shouldn't be a penny of tax dollars going to institutions that support this horrendous ideology.

* Voice your appreciation that HB 21 passed which requires public comment at all the school board meetings. This needs to be expanded next session to all public meetings that are funded by tax payer dollars. This supports freedom of speech and is another check and balance placed on government.

Rebecca Hawkins is the chair of Impact Council 20. Her husband is John. I was able to visit with them last week in their home. I am so grateful to have them as part of this effort. They have six children. They came from California and definitely do not want to see Utah head in that direction.

On Monday I drove to Provo and attended a meeting there with some of our legislators. Rep Stratton is holding the microphone in this picture. He mentioned our Founders' and Constitution bill that he ran for our organization. I appreciate the work he put into that.

Today has been a good day. Yesterday I was feeling a little bit discouraged. I was trying to figure out what we do in the schools for Founders' and Constitution Month in September. Today I was able to have clarity of what to focus on. We had a very productive meeting at Tad Callister's home about this month. There are a lot of good things coming together. I continue to try to find more chairs for the Impact Councils. I keep telling myself to focus on one day at a time and work on the priorities of just that day.

Today I met with Tad Callister, Sheri Dew and Brooke Johnson on the 24th floor of the church office building. We discussed our Founders' and Constitution month this September. We talked about different articles that can be written and podcasts that can be done.
