One of the greatest ever chess minds Akiba Rubinstein and one of the most prominent chess trainers, analysts and theoreticians Semyon Furman born on this day. Rubinstein would have turned 140, Furman - 100. Profound and deep, they had a huge impact on the development of chess.

Semyon Furman and a young Anatoly Karpov during a training session. No apps, no websites, no sophisticated engines and no tropical resorts for training camps. Just good old-fashioned books, magazines, and the irreplaceable one-to-one connection in a cold Soviet-era flat.

If I was FIDE , the person I'd approve GM title was my mom. She is absolutely Grandmaster in area of taking care I can focus on playing chess without worrying about details.
