This photo is included in the Spanish edition of Kasparov’s book, “The Test of Time”. At least one person in my timeline will recognize the gentleman on the left.

The person standing next to Kasparov is Vladimir Dvorkovich, a famous arbiter and organizer, and father of the incumbent FIDE President. Vladimir Dvorkovich was part of Kasparov’s team for quite a few years. I got to met him in Linares, many years after this photo was taken.

1967 began for Spassky with a victory at Beverwijk. Larsen did not play very well. He also lost this game ... But at the end of the year, the loser was recognized as the best!

Here's another excellent find in the Swiss Federal Archives: a clip from the 18th Chess Olympiad in Lugano focused on the Soviets (Petrosian, Geller, Korchnoi, Smyslov, Polugaevsky, and Spassky). They won the event at ease, 8½ points ahead of Yugoslavia. https://www.bar.admin.ch
