"The Mona Lisa" of Eduard Gufeld (), who was born #OnThisDay in 1936.

Gufeld played this game in 1973 against Vladimir Bagirov and considered it one of his biggest achievements naming it his "Mona Lisa".

Soviet chess GM Lev Polugaevsky was born #OnThisDay in 1934.

One of the world's strongest players from 1960 to 1980s Polugaevsky was also known as distinguished author and opening theorist.
An admired theorist, he qualified for the Candidates Tournament on three occasions with unprecedented opening sharpness. Polugaevsky found success with his own variation of the Najdorf and held multiple USSR Championship titles.
Czechoslovak GM Salo Flohr and Austrian chess player and writer Ernst Grünfeld were born #OnThisDay in 1908 and 1893 respectively!
