Leiden-1970. Of course, the match-tournament with the participation of the world champion and the winner of the Oscar-67 is a worthy end to the career of the 6th world champion. But what a pity that the Botvinnik-Fischer match failed!

Nice blog about "Schacchia, Ludus" poem written by M. H. Vida in 1513, which describes a mythical #chess game disputed between Apollo & Mercury and arbitrated by Jupiter, in the presence of the other Olympians, and the impact it had on modern chess.

In a 2015 Q&A, Carlsen was asked: "If you could play one of all the players in history, who would you play?" Carlsen: "Probably Fischer at his best. Because the precision (and energy) that he played with is just unmatched in the history of chess. So Fischer from 1970 to 1972."

The pre-Internet Soviet-era youth following games 16 and 20 of the 1960 world championship match between Botvinnik and Tal in an open-air setting. After two quick draws in the last two games, Tal won the title with 12½-8½. Imagine their excitement when following game six.
