Tigran Petrosian, the 9th World Chess Champion, was born #OnThisDay in 1929.
Nicknamed "Iron Tigran" due to his almost impenetrable defensive playing style, Petrosian was a World Champion from 1963 to 1969, 8-time World Championship Candidate, and 4-time Soviet chess Champion.

"Chess is a game by its form, an art by its content and a science by the difficulty of gaining mastery in it. Chess can convey as much happiness as a good book or work of music can."

In this scene from "Fahim" (2019), a film directed by Pierre-François Martin-Laval, Gérard Depardieu teaches the inner works of a fine combination. The latter appeared in actual play in a 1971 game between Roland Beyen and Miroslav Filip. A great way to beat a grandmaster, no?
