🇬🇼❓🏴 Two "balobas", animist temples, and a church were set on fire by unknown assailants in a Bissau neighborhood.

The attacks were presented as being caused by "religious extremism", probably Islamic (Islam is the largest religion in the country, accounting for around 45% of the population).

The situation is beginning to worry civic organizations in a country known, until now, for its good coexistence between different religions.

🇲🇿🇺🇸 Mozambique Could Be Worth 20% of Africa’s Energy Production by 2040

Consulting firm Deloitte launched the "Africa Energy Outlook 2024, Mozambique Special Report", in which it highlights Mozambique's potential to become one of the main players in the energy sector in southern Africa by 2040.

According to Deloitte's analysis, the country's gas reserves are turning Mozambique into one of the world's leading energy producers, with the capacity to contribute up to 20% of the African continent's energy production.

"Mozambique's vast gas reserves could make the country one of the world's top 10 producers, responsible for 20% of Africa's production by 2040," says the report.

🇵🇹🇲🇿🇪🇺 Portugal remains optimistic that the European Union Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM-Moz), will be extended, at a moment when cases of extreme violence are on the increase in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.

The goal of the mission, created in 2021 and commanded by Portugal, is to provide training and support to the Mozambican Armed Forces in order to protect civilian populations and restore security in the Cabo Delgado Province.
🇵🇹 Today, March 8, 2024, the Portuguese Air Force announced the death of Major pilot aviator António Lourenço de Sousa Lobato (1938-2024).

A veteran of the Ultramar War, Major António Lobato served in the Portuguese Guinea theater of operations. In 1963, after making an emergency landing during a mission, he was taken prisoner of war and held captive for seven and a half years in Guinea-Conakry.

He was released in 1970 during Operação Mar Verde, one of the most daring operations of the Ultramar war, which involved taking over the capital of a foreign country. The secret operation was organized by the Estado Novo to rescue Portuguese prisoners of war then held in Guinea-Conakry and overthrow the government of Sékou Touré, who, aided by the USSR, was supporting the PAIGC guerrillas against Portugal.

After his release, he continued to serve Portugal, flying in the Air Force until 1981.

🇲🇿⚡️🏴‍☠️🏴 Insurgents invaded the community of Pulo, in the district of Metuge, killing at least one person and kidnapping nine students, which caused the population to flee.

Pulo is about 8 km from the water treatment plant that supplies Cabo Delgado's regional capital Pemba, which has more than 200,000 inhabitants. AdRN, the water supply company in charge of the station, has stated that the quality of water supplied remains within the potability standards recommended by the WHO.

The station is under special protection by Mozambique's Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) of the FDS, and the Rwanda Security Force (RSF) 🇷🇼 in Cabo Delgado.

🇺🇳🇲🇿 UN running out of money to help Mozambique terror victims

"Wars and other natural phenomena are attracting the world’s attention and leaving Mozambique’s situation almost invisible," warns the UN's refugee chief.

The country's mineral-rich province of Cabo Delgado has been plagued by Islamist violence, and the UN says it only has 17% of the funding it needs to provide short-term relief to the many locals who need urgent aid.

"I appeal to the World Bank and other partners to support Mozambique in development projects, to not only avoid a humanitarian crisis, but also stop the spread of terrorism in the world," UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi said.

"As a United Nations organisation, [we] are committed to providing a large-scale response to the humanitarian drama in Cabo Delgado, but unfortunately, without sufficient resources, we will have no alternative but to do less of what we should do."

🇿🇦🇲🇿 South Africa builds concrete wall to keep out Mozambicans

Concrete barriers are being built along a stretch of the South Africa-Mozambique border to prevent people crossing over to steal and smuggle vehicles.

South African authorities have budgeted close to $2.7m (£2.1m) to build the wall. It's made up of three sections: an 8km (5 mile) barrier near Tembe Elephant Park; an 8km-long stretch near iSimangaliso Wetland Park; a 9km wall from the western boundary of Tembe Elephant Park towards Pongolo River.

Building works on the Tembe Elephant Park section "are currently underway," according to a joint briefing by the South African government and KwaZulu-Natal province.

"The impact of the project has been positively received by the community and the South African National Defense Force," it added.
