New #Fulbright #English Teaching Assistant (ETA) James Reddy and Embassy Cultural Affairs Officer Sarah Talalay received a traditional welcome of lepeshka at Jizzakh State Pedagogical Institute (JPSI) last week. They met with the JPSI Rector and visited Access students, who are taking after-school intensive English lessons. James will be spending the next 10 months at Umid Specialized Boarding School assisting English teachers and teaching students about American culture and working with Access students at JSPI.

They met with the JPSI Rector and visited Access students, who are taking after-school intensive English lessons. Just three more days remain to apply to be a 2022 #Fulbright Visiting Scholar! This U.S. Government funded #exchange program provides some 850 faculty and professionals from around the world with grants for research, lecturing or to explore best practices in curriculum development. Nargiza Usmanova from #Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) is one of those scholars. She is currently at #Idaho State University exploring the U.S. higher education system and hosted by Fulbright Specialist Bob Houghton, who visited TUIT in 2019.

Lasting partnerships are one of the best aspects of our Fulbright programs! Three years after her creative and academic writing workshop in 2019, #Fulbright scholar alumna Cathy Raymond continues collaborating with Fergana State University (FSU). At the Third International Conference on Literacy, Culture, and Language Education on October 14-16, Cathy presented with FSU faculty on “Creative writing and creativity as resources for teaching academic writing.” The hybrid presentation offered reflections on a two-week collaborative writing workshop conducted with FSU English language faculty. FSU faculty participated with pre-recorded contributions, but they also joined live sessions and answered questions. Says Cathy, “It was a very special experience, and it was very well received.”

👨⚖️ Umid studied System of Selection and Training of Judges at the prestigious College of Law, Syracuse University in New York for 3 months, while Botir delved into Agriculture at the renowned University of California, Davis for 5 months. 📚🌾
🙌 Their passion for learning and cultural exchange is truly inspiring, and they generously shared valuable insights with us.
🌎 Excitement fills the air as we welcome our latest finalists, #Fulbright Visiting Scholars, Gulnoza Ismailova and G’ulom Bekmirzayev (pictured in the left). They are all set to depart for the United States in early August to pursue their dreams.
✨ Gulnoza will be studying Global Studies at the esteemed George Washington University, and G’ulom will dive deep into Agriculture at the USDA. 🌱
🍀 As they enter this new chapter, we wish them safe and enriching journey.

During the next six weeks, Dr. Scillitoe will exchange expertise with her fellow faculty members and offer insights with several centers related to #entrepreneurship and #innovation at FerPI.
