The Emerald City reading is not random. In 1990 economist Hugh Rockoff wrote "The 'Wizard of Oz' as a Monetary Allegory". Since then scholars have mapped L. Frank Baum's 1900 book onto the 1890s Populist movement: the fight over gold vs. silver coinage.
Paper greenbacks were the Emerald City itself. All persons entering the city must wear green-tinted glasses locked on by the gatekeeper so that everything looks green/gold. The first step to reclaiming your sovereignty is the innerstanding of the true meaning of being born as a "Spiritual Sovereign Soul" as opposed to being incorporated at birth into "The Evil Corporation System of Enslavement".
