У Walmart прелестная реклама к Супербоулу этого года (в прошлом году были тачки, в этом — космос/пришельцы):

On December 17 2020 the Guardian leaked a story that the world wasn’t supposed to know about. Astronomers thought they had discovered an advanced alien civilisation and didn’t want people to panic, so had been trying to keep it hushed for months. If this turns out to be true, it would be the biggest discovery in all of human history.

So, what has made astronomers think they have found advanced
aliens? They found a signal hidden in some old data from the Parkes Telescope. This signal appears to have come from Proxima Centauri and was a narrow band beam of microwaves at 982 MHz. They were even able to repeatedly observed it over a 30 hour period. They named the signal BLC1, which is imaginative…

But, we have had signals like this in the past, like the Wow! signal, which later turned out to be either manmade or of a new natural phenomena. So, why don’t astronomers think this is the case here?

Robin Hanson, who introduced the idea of the great filter, solves this riddle by postulating that civilizations that he calls “grabby” will soon fill the universe. As anticipated, grabby aliens are the main assumption of a detailed model describing how such aliens expand and distribute in the universe. The model makes many interesting predictions, such as when we’ll meet grabby aliens, our chances of hearing alien messages, and becoming an interplanetary civilization ourselves. It also answers why we don’t see aliens yet, considering the universe’s large number of stars and galaxies:
