Hot Cross Buns are very much a part of the Irish and UK Easter tradition. They are served to commemorate Christ’s suffering on the cross (hence the cross marking on the bun).

Feast of Saint Columba –June 9th
Saint Columba was born in 521 to a noble Irish family. Educated by holy men including Saints Finnian and Mobhi, he became a priest and one of the “Twelve Apostles of Ireland.” After founding several monasteries in Ireland, he left for Scotland in 563—either to preach or as a penance.
On the island of Iona, Columba established a monastery that became a center of faith and learning. From there, he converted many, including King Brude, and spread the Gospel across northern Scotland. Despite resistance, his mission thrived.
Known for his holiness, discipline, and miracles, Columba died on June 9, 597. His legacy endures through the monastic tradition and Christian faith he helped anchor in the British Isles.

At Lady’s Well in Titeskin, County Cork, a huge ash tree has stood over the well for centuries. Once known as Whitewell, it became a popular place of pilgrimage for people seeking spiritual and physical healing, especially in the nineteenth century when hundreds gathered for the pattern day to pray.
Many stories of cures are associated with the well, including a crippled man and a young boy who were said to have been healed after washing their legs in the water. A woman who was cured of deafness later arranged for a beautiful statue of Our Lady to be placed there.
