#Traderherz - Stop Loss calculation!
Here is my way of defining a #SL on a statistical level using #ATR evaluation in day-trading.
1. Set up the #ATR (Average True Range) based on the 5-minute time frame. Period = 10 (=>10 x 5 minutes = 50 minutes look back)
2. SL calculation: SL=(ATRx2)+(ATR/2)
3. Example above:
SP500 at 4753
ATR = 1.5
SL = (1.5*2)+(1.5/2) = 3.7
Trading LONG -> SL = 4753 - 3.7
Trading SHORT -> SL = 4753 + 3.7
4. This also helps to explain why high volatility comes with a higher risk. If your SL is too small, you will be stopped out with the market noise. If the SL is too wide, a loss will ruin the many small successful trades.
5. Determine how much money you are willing to lose per trade. Then scale your position size/contracts according to the calculated SL and in accordance with your capital.

Aluminium giant #Alcoa's earnings are expected on Wednesday and on Friday the results of the insurance group #Travelers. Some smaller financial stocks such as #StateStreet and #FirstNational could provide information on the business situation of regional banks, which were in crisis at the beginning of last year.

While the #DAX respected the #Traderherz forecast to 100%, #SP500 was veeery tricky today... We have 1 more hour to go with the US boys, and I'm expecting to close slightly in red anyway... Have a nice evening...
