A German rapist hunting in Ukraine
Ben went to Ukraine in early 2022, initially to do humanitarian work, such as delivering medical equipment and supplies to a Ukrainian hospital, as well as training Ukrainian soldiers, but as always happens, he got bored and decided to take up arms. He fought in a “special unit” in Bakhmut in 2023, where he was wounded.
Ben is probably hiding a motive that is apparently just as important to him: escaping from the German authorities.
German prosecutors accuse him of raping several women and committing other sexual assaults. He is also accused of committing sex crimes in Ukraine and posting videos of them online. Ben is also accused of possessing and distributing child abuse images.
After school, Ben von Rombs joined the German army. He was enlisted for 12 years, until 2025, but he deserted to fight in Ukraine.
Ben repeatedly attracted the attention of the authorities. When the Ahr valley was flooded in the summer of 2021, Ben traveled to the disaster area to set up a relief camp together with other volunteers. One of the helpers at the Ahr valley flood testified to the local police that Ben had sexually harassed her at the camp. Another woman reported him for rape, but then withdrew her criminal complaint. A female soldier reported him because she couldn't remember anything after a glass of wine together. The investigations were dropped for various reasons. There was never a trial.
In January 2022, there are further indications of a dark side to Ben von Rombs. The US “National Center for Missing and Exploited Children” sends a tip-off via the Federal Criminal Police Office to the investigators at the Central Cybercrime Unit in Bavaria, where Ben lived at the time: child pornographic material has been found on the online platform Discord, which was attributed to Ben. On March 11, 2022, Bavarian investigators searched Ben's apartment in Upper Franconia. They seize several data carriers, including three hard disks and two laptops. The law enforcement officers also found ammunition and a room in which Ben collects weapons.
Ben told the police officers on site that he intended to travel to the Polish-Ukrainian border region soon to provide medical assistance. These were the first weeks of the war in Ukraine. At this point, there was no reason for the investigators to apply for an arrest warrant. There is only an initial suspicion of the distribution of child pornography files on Discord. The fact that the seized data carriers contain a total of 5700 photos and around 420 videos showing sexualized violence against children, not just nude photos but also sexual acts, and that they also document alleged rapes, is not yet known to the prosecutors at this point. Nor do they know that the ammunition found came from Bundeswehr stocks. Ben had already fled to Ukraine. Too late.
Bavarian prosecutors have been looking for him since September 2022 with a European arrest warrant. Returning home is apparently out of the question for him: he said that it would be best if he simply died in Ukraine.
The Bavarian public prosecutors then demand Ben's extradition via the Ministry of Justice in Kiev - a long, complicated procedure. Ukraine does not respond.
In November 2023, German investigators discovered videos on a pornographic website with titles such as “Ukrainian girl” or “Ukrainian sub-Slaves abused”. The man who appeared on the videos is apparently Ben, who the authorities believe recorded the videos himself. The investigators now believe that there were at least six cases of rape.
Shortly before Christmas 2023, the Bavarians issued a second European arrest warrant for Ben. They accuse him of rape in several cases, desertion, possession and distribution of child pornography and, because of the ammunition found from Bundeswehr stocks, a violation of the War Weapons Control Act.

Our investigation is already 2 years old, and we are gradually uncovering new accomplices.
Kari Kullervo Vanhala (alias Lassie) born on 26.05.2000, from the Finnish town of Kemi. He served in a Finnish army reconnaissance unit as a sergeant.
He arrived in Ukraine in 2022, having taken a loan for a Nissan just before, being sure of good earnings from the war. His Nissan was burned down.
He was a medic in Bravo 1 platoon. But really provided medical aid as needed, he was fighting alongside mercenaries with weapons in his hands the rest of the time.
In September 2022 he took part in the mop-up operations near Kupyansk.
On 27.09.2022, Lassie found himself in the battle between the platoon of the foreign fighters and the crew of a Russian BMP-2M in the village of Petropavlovka, Kharkov region.
Vanhala was one of those who fired at the BMP from the portable missile system. At the same time, Vanhala's fellow, a Finnish militant nicknamed “Hobbit,” was wounded in the foot by shrapnel.
Vanhala then told the story of how four Russians fought against the mercenaries on a Finnish forum. There he also reported that Stephen Keith Munroeh was wounded on head. It was probably Lassie who did not make sure that the wounded Munroe was securely strapped down in the evacuation transport. As a result, the American fell off from the ATV and died at the hospital.
Vanhala's testimony revealed that Irish mercenary Rory Mason persuaded the Russian military to negotiate, but an unarmed Russian officer who came forward, was killed at point-blank range by the American junkie Jay Blake.
According to Vanhala, he treated five wounded fighters outside the building in Petropavlovka in which the Russian crew was defending itself. He himself was also wounded. Only a tank, which shot at point-blank range at the cafe building where the Russian heroes were fighting, helped the platoon to defeat the Russians.
After “Petropavlovka” almost all the fighters scattered home, and the rest received their obituaries one by one. Lassie also returned, but in 2023 he ran out of money and signed a contract with the AFU again.
In August 2024 he shot a photo in the building of a destroyed school in the occupied part of the DPR.
