If I was completely broke and needed to land a remote job within 2–3 weeks as a Nigerian, this is exactly what I’d do:

1. I won’t waste time chasing Big Tech.
Forget Google and Microsoft for now.
I’d focus on small global startups and solo founders instead.
Those big companies have long processes, ATS wahala, and months of waiting.
But small teams? They need help now.
They value people who can figure things out and get results even without fancy titles.

I’d look for founders on LinkedIn and Twitter (X) who are actively building something.
These people are usually overwhelmed and looking for reliable hands.

2. I’d package myself:
I’d position myself as a multi-talented person, someone who can handle support, Social media management, content creation, and admin tasks.
Why? Small teams don’t hire specialists.
They want smart people who can wear multiple hats, adapt fast, and get things done.
I’ll show them I’m exactly that person.

3. I’d put together a simple but strong CV and portfolio.
I’d use Google Docs or Canva to design a clean page showing:

What I can do (skills that solve problems)

Tools I’ve used (even free versions—just be honest)

A short Loom video introducing myself (authenticity matters)

A couple of mini sample projects,even if I created them myself just to show proof of work.


4. I’d become a daily job hunter.
Every morning and evening, I’d search Twitter (X) and LinkedIn using keywords like “remote job,” “freelance help,” or “hiring.”
I’d also join groups and communities where remote jobs are shared especially the ones focused on freelancers, and small startups.
You’ll be shocked at how many unlisted opportunities exist there.

5. I’d cold-message at least 10 people every day.
Here’s something I might say:
"Hey [Name], I saw you’re building [Product]. I’m a generalist based in Nigeria who can support you with [X]. I checked out your [LinkedIn/Twitter] and I’d love to assist you part-time as you grow.
Here’s a quick Loom video showing what I can do.
I can start immediately, even if it’s just a short trial."

This is how to stand out. Keep it short, real, and focused on how you can help.

6. I’d give value before asking for pay.
Look, when you’re broke, you don’t have money, but you can build trust. That’s your currency.
Even offering 1 or 2 months of free work (with clear boundaries) can open doors. If they like your work, they’ll pay. If they don’t, you walk away with more experience and maybe a testimonial to use elsewhere.

7. I won’t obsess over job titles.
Whether it’s Social media manager, Virtual Assistant, Customer Support, Community Manager, Content Writer, They are all remote work.

Don’t let titles hold you back. Start with what you can do and grow from there.

8. Once I land my first gig, I’d turn it into content.
I’d document the whole process:
"How I landed a remote job from Nigeria in 2 weeks with no connections and zero experience."
Trust me, that story alone can attract more recruiters or clients than applying blindly ever will.

The truth is, it’s not about luck.
It’s about packaging yourself right, staying consistent, and putting yourself where opportunities are.

So if you’re broke and serious about remote work, stop waiting.
Start applying like your Life depends on it, because it just might.
