There is an Instagram exploit circulating right now that allows attackers to steal up to 80% of usernames. It relies on the 'Account Based In' location data. Here is how to prevent your username from being stolen:
Revised Steps
1. Turn on 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication)
• Go to Accounts Center > Password and security > Two-Factor Authentication > Select your account and enable it.
2. Hide "Account Based In"
• Go to Settings and activity > About > About your account > Account based in.
• Toggle "Show country/region" to OFF.
3. Deactivate your account (Optional)
• Go to Accounts Center > Personal details > Account ownership and control > Deactivation.
