A deep and enlightened understanding:

❝To know that many of those who follow their desires love Allaah and His messenger in a way that many of the devout worshippers do not.❞

– Ibn Taymiyyah (‎رحمه الله)

[Jaami' Ar-Rasaa'il]
📆 Days of Fasting for Jumada al-Thani 📆

[Sun 12th - Tues 14th]

The days of the White (nights) of Fasting for Jumada al-Thani fall on Sunday the 12th till Tuesday the 14th of March.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Fasting three days of each month is fasting for a lifetime, and ayaam al-beed are the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.” (1)

Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) said: My friend (the Prophet ﷺ) advised me to do three things and I shall not leave them till I die, these are: To fast three days every month, to offer the Duha prayer, and to offer witr before sleeping. (2)

Make sure you fast and share with others!

(1) - Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 2420; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1040.

(2) - (al-Bukhaari, 1178; Muslim, 721).
Some of the Salaf would say:

"Good deeds are done by both the pious and sinners (from time to time) but only a truthful person can leave off sins."

[Qaa'idah fee Sabr v. 1 p. 91]
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah [رحمه الله] said:

❝From the means of ease and delight for the heart, is: continuous remembrance of Allaah in all circumstances, and in every place.

Dhikr has an amazing effect in giving ease to the heart, and pleasure to the heart.

Negligence has a strange effect on making the heart constrained, imprisoning it and punishing it.❞

[Zaad al-Ma’ad (2/25)]
❝It is the decree of Allah for which there is no reversal that whoever loves something/someone more than Allah, that thing/person would be the source of his pain and misery, and anything that is given precedence before Allah would never be blessed.❞

[Ibn al-Qayyim 'الوابل الصيب' pg. 12]
Days of Fasting for Rajab | Mon 10th - Wed 12th 📆

The days of the White (nights) of Fasting for Rajab fall on Monday the 10th till Wednesday the 12th of April.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"The trials [fitnah] a person experiences through his family, wealth, self, children and neighbour are expiated by fasting, prayer, charity, commanding virtue and forbidding vice." (1)

He (ﷺ) also said:

"Observing Saum (fasting) on three days of every month is equivalent to a full month's fasting." (2)

People who speak about you are of 5 types:

1. Those who praise you in your face but in your absence they criticise you. They are the hypocritical ones and this is a common trait of most people.

2. Those who criticise you in your face and in your absence. They are those who make no effort to restrain their tongues.

3. Those who praise you in your face and in your absence. They are those who want something from you.

4. Those who criticise you in your face but in your absence praise you. They are the foolish ones.

5. Those who neither praise nor criticise you in your face or in your absence. However in your absence they either praise you or at least withhold from criticising you. These are the people of intelligence and good character.

- Ibn Hazm (‎رحمه الله) in (الأخلاق والسير)
Enjoying the dunya does not require much intellect, for there is nothing similar to animals in the diversity of their enjoyment of it. Every human being who does not reach the pleasure of Īmān, there is no value to his intellect.

الاستمتاع بالدنيا لا يحتاج إلى كبير عقل، فلا يوجد مثل البهائم تفنناً في استمتاعها بها، وكل إنسان لا يصل إلى متعة الإيمان فلا قيمة لعقله
How to welcome the month of Sha'bān;

❝The Messenger of Allāh used to fast till one would say that he would never stop fasting, and he would abandon fasting till one would say that he would never fast.

I never saw the messenger of Allāh fasting for a whole month except the month of Ramadān, and did not see him fasting in any month more than in the month of Sha’bān.❞ - [Sāhīh al-Būkhārī]

The best months for fasting after Ramaḍān are Muḥarram and Sha‘bān, and it is not encouraged to fast an entire month voluntarily other than these two. It is mentioned in the Ṣaḥīḥ (al-Bukhārī) that the Prophet (ṣallallāhu `alayhi wa-sallam) used to fast all of Sha‘bān.

أفضل الأشهر للصيام بعد رمضان محرم وشعبان ولا يُستحب صوم شهر كامل تطوعا غيرهما، وفي الصحيح أن النبي ﷺ «كان يصوم شعبان كله»

[Sh. Abdul 'Aziz al-Tarefe (حفظه الله)]
In his discussion of the month of Sha'ban, this 8th month of the Islamic calendar, al-Haafidh ibn Rajab (‎رحمه الله) mentioned:

[كان شعبان كالمقدمة لرمضان شرع فيه ما يشرع في رمضان من الصيام وقراءة القرآن ليحصل التأهب لتلقي رمضان وترتاض النفوس بذلك على طاعة الرحمن]

Sha'ban is like a introduction to Ramadan. The things which are legislated in Ramadan - such as fasting and reciting the Qur'an - are also legislated in Sha'ban so that one may be prepared to meet Ramadan and get himself used to obeying al-Rahman.

[Lataa'if al-Ma'aarif pg. 258]
Calamities are an expiation:

The proofs regarding calamities being an expiation [of sins] are many, and when he is patient with them, he is rewarded for his patience.

This is because reward and recompense are only [granted] for a performed action, it being patience [in this case]. As for the calamity itself, this is from the actions of Allah, not from the actions of the slave. It is part of Allah's repaying the slave for his sin and atoning his sin through it.

In al-Musnad, it was reported that they entered upon Abu 'Ubayda (رضي الله عنه) during his sickness and informed him that he would be rewarded for his illness. He said, "I earn no reward or this... Rather, calamities are [a means of] forgiveness." By that, he (may Allah be pleased with him) clarified that he would not be rewarded for the sickness itself, though it would expiate his sins.

3 Days of Fasting for Sha'ban | Wed 10th - Fri 12th 📆

The days of the White (nights) of Fasting for Sha'ban fall on Wednesday the 10th till Friday the 12th of May.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“The month of Sha’ban is between the months of Rajab and Ramadan; people are (usually) heedless of it, and during it the deeds of the slave are raised, and I like that my deeds are raised whilst I am fasting.” (1)

He (ﷺ) also said:

“Shall I not tell you of something that will take away the evil of the heart? Fasting three days of each month.” (2)

Malik ibn Dinar (‎رحمه الله) said:

❝The hearts of the truthful sincere people long for the hereafter when they hear the Quran.❞

[Hilyat al-Awliya' 358/2]
‎Ibn al-Jawzi (‎رحمه الله):

“The one who has Mushaf must recite it everyday of whatever is easy for him lest he be from those who've forsaken Quran."

Prepare for Ramadan by fasting this Monday and Thursday.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Deeds are shown (to Allah) on Mondays and Thursdays, and I like my deeds to be shown when I am fasting.” (1)

A’isha (رضي الله عنها) said about the prophet (ﷺ) that;

“The Prophet (ﷺ) was keen to fast on Mondays and Thursdays.” (2)

[1] - [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 747].

[2] - [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 745].
On the first night of Ramadân, Umar ibn al-Khattâb (رضي الله عنه) would pray Maghrib, then say (to the people): 'Sit down.' Then he would give a small address:

“Verily the fasting of this month has been made a duty upon you, and standing in night prayer has not been made a duty upon you, but those amongst you who can stand in prayer should do so, for it is from the extra good deeds about which Allâh told us: so whoever cannot stand in prayer, let him sleep on his bed,

And beware of saying: I will fast if so and so fasts and I will stand in night prayer if so and so stands in prayer.

Whoever fasts or stands in night prayer, he must make this for Allâh. And you should know that you are in prayer as long as you are waiting for a prayer.

Minimize any vain or false speech in the houses of Allâh (mosques; he said this two or three times).

Let none of you fast a few days before the month (in order to avoid missing the beginning of the month; he said this three times),

And do not fast until you see [the crescent of the new month] unless it is overcast. If it is overcast, count [the previous month] as 30 days. Then do not break your fasts until you see the night upon the mountain (i.e. you are sure the sun has set).
