First Cracks in the AI Story

a. In recent months, Anthropic’s AI agentic tool Claude sparked a massive selloff in SaaS and IT services stocks, erasing hundreds of billions in market value.

b. On May 22, 2026, Fortune magazine has published an article which says that recent corporate reports are “exposing AI’s real cost problem.”

c. Microsoft has begun cancelling most of its Claude Code licenses, moving thousands of its developers, project managers, and designers back to using its in-house GitHub Copilot CLI.

d. Microsoft isn’t alone. Uber’s CTO said the firm had already burnt through its entire 2026 AI coding budget in just 4 months (Jan to Apr). Meta, Amazon and other tech firms pushing for max use of AI tokens too face the same dilemma.

e. Fortune article says: “These reports may throw cold water on the bets tech industry has placed on AI. While some cling to the promise of an “AI revolution,” the cost of adoption is proving a stubborn bottleneck.”

f. Highlight Line for IT Services: “The economics of replacing or augmenting human labor with AI may be more complicated than some early forecasts originally implied.”

g. Earlier today, Dr. Vishal Sikka posted the Fortune article on his X account with these comments: “Token costs are becoming a real issue. In the weeks/months ahead, I expect more scrutiny of AI usage.”

h. Goldman Sachs recently forecasted that agentic AI token consumption could increase 24x by 2030. So, even if the cost-per-token will fall sharply, aggregate costs will rise.

g. AI compute, inference, energy, and tooling costs (including AI native expert costs) are not going to zero. Just as broadband internet or electricity never became free despite massive improvements in efficiency and scale.

h. Jevons Paradox: As more AI use cases emerge for individuals and businesses, the increased token consumption will outpace falling unit costs.

i. Citing Pew Research polls, Harvard’s Gazette reported last month that public opposition is rising over the large water & electricity demands that data centers impose on communities, while creating almost no new jobs. (1.4 GW Data Center = electricity for a million US homes.)

Here’s a rough back-of-the-envelope calculation:

The Human Cost

The current cost of a mid-level Indian IT developer is ₹950 per hour (including salary plus fixed & operational overheads).

At the exchange rate of ₹95, this engineer costs the company $10 per hour.

If the exchange rate is ₹100, the cost goes down to $9.50 per hour.

The AI Multiplier

Now train this IT developer on enterprise AI tools. This won’t replace the developer, but it will make him twice as efficient (2x multiplier). So, he can now finish 2 hours worth of work in 1 hour.

Therefore, cost per hour drops to $4.75 (half of $9.50)

Cost of AI Tools

Indian IT companies have to rent AI models from the US. Assume that the cost of AI tooling is $6.25 per hour for every IT engineer using the system.

Total Cost of Operation

$4.75 + $6.25 = $11 per hour

This is the “Indian AI-Augmented Model” @ $11 per hour

Who Wins the Global Price War?

100% AI Model in the US (with high AI native expert salaries, AI token costs, data center power costs, and local overheads & taxes) may cost $15 to $20 per hour.

An India IT firm can deliver the same high-tech AI-driven work at an internal cost of $11 per hour.

Weak ₹ as a Tactical Weapon

With every ₹1 depreciation against the US dollar, an Indian IT export firm’s operating margin expands by 30 to 50 bps (0.3 to 0.5%).

The way China intentionally undervalued its currency for years to dominate world trade, India must also learn to weaponize the rupee to its advantage.

If cracks indeed begin to emerge in AI frontier model cost economics, it will be time for India to go on the offensive and fight the IT & GCC service exports battle on the front foot.

इससे पहले की बुराई पढ़कर मुझे और दिल्ली शहर को गालियां दी जाए तो मैं पहले ही अपनी बुराई कर लेता हुँ,...... हाँ मैं देश की सबसे पोलूटीड दिल्ली मे रहता हुँ, जिसे लोग रेप केपिटल भी कहते है, या बदनाम किया हुआ है।

अब बात करते है हरियाणा और ये पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश की,

हरियाणा वाले कहते है की हम अकड़ू नहीं है, हमारी बोली ही ऐसी है, छोटे बड़े से तु तडाक करके ही बोलते है,

तो भाई तुम्हारी तमीज तब कहां से आ जाती है ज़ब तुम्हारे ऑफिस का बड़ा अधिकारी तुम्हारे सामने आ जाता है, तब कैसे आप आप, हांजी हांजी बोलने लगते हो...??? कौन सा मास्टर है जो तुम्हे दो चार सेकेण्ड मे तमीज सीखा जाता है..????? पल भर मे कैसे फुहड़ता छोड़कर शालीन बन जाते हो...??

और यही सवाल पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश के ख़ासकर की गाजियाबाद से लेकर शामली यमुना के किनारे वाली बैल्ट है, यहाँ के लोग कौन सा कम है, ख़ासकर की जो दिल्ली पुलिस मे भर्ती है, एक नंबर की वाहियात बोलचाल है इनकी अम लोगो के साथ, और जैसे ही इनका बड़ा अधिकारी सामने आ जाए, तब ये अमीरीकियो टेकस्स, ब्रिटेन, पोलैंड, इटली, स्पेन, ऐसे ऐसे देशो से तुरंत तमीज लेकर एक दम शालीनता से बोलने लगते है,..

वरना कोई अम आदमी इनसे ज़रा सा सवाल कर दे, तो ये तुरंत घटियापन पर आ जाते है, 'के कह रा, ईबी क़ानून सिखाऊ तझे, घणा बोल के दिखा रा.... मतलब आम आदमी इनसे सामान्य बात भी नहीं कर सकता,

हाँ मुझे पता है दिल्ली के बारे मे कहने का मन कर गया होगा अब तक पढ़कर, कहो खूब कहो,...

अब आते है उत्तराखंड पर, हाँ भाई उत्तराखंडियो, क्या कह रहे हो अलग अलग वीडियो बना कर.... की आपका उत्तराखंड देव भूमि है...??? आप लोग बहुत तमीज से बात करते हो,...???? अतिथि देवो भव : का भाव रखते हो...????

हाँ बोलचाल आपकी मीठी है, लेकिन वो मीठी नहीं रही जो आज से पंद्रह साल पहले होती थी, हर पर्यटक ज़ब उत्तराखंड को और उत्तराखंड के लोगो को अपना समझता था, पिछले दस पंद्रह सालो की बात करूँ तो तुम्हारा व्यवहार इतना कड़वा हो चुका है की हरियाणा वालो का नंबर तुम्हारे बाद ही आता है,

अरे चलो मान लिया की हरियाणा के सारे लोग खराब है, ऐसा है नहीं, लेकिन चलो पल भर के लिए मान लेते है, तो क्या तुम दिल्ली एनसीआर, पंजाब, उत्तर प्रदेश यहाँ के लोगो के साथ भी दुर्व्यव्हार करोगे...????

और क्या कह रहे हो देवभूमि है, ये बात कम से कम तुम लोग तो बोलो ही मत, महीने मे बीस दिन मैं उत्तराखंड मे ही रहता हुँ, ऐसी ऐसी जगह ठेके खुले हुए है, लेकिन तुम लोगो ने ज़रा भी विरोध नहीं किया, मज़ाल है सरकार की जो स्थानीय लोगो की मर्जी के नीलकंठ मंदिर, ऋषिकेश मे मा गंगा से कुछ ही मीटर की दूरी पर ठेके खोल दें।

देव भूमि.....????? अरे सुनो, देहरादून एयरपोर्ट से होते हुए जंगल के रास्ते थानो होते हुए ज़ब देहरादून जाते है, तो थानो चौक से थोड़ा पहले ही, बिलकुल मेन सड़क पर, बिलकुल शिव मंदिर i दिवार से लगता हुआ एक ढाबा है, जहाँ सुबह सुबह ही चिकन मटन बन जाता है, और हाँ मंगलवार को भी, और मजे की बात यहाँ के लोकल लोग ही है जो यहाँ आकर सुबह से दारू पीना चालू कर देते है, ढाबे के मालिक का नाम भारद्वाज है, पंडित है, दस बार स्थानीय लोगो से मैं खुद शिकायते कर चुका हुँ,

पता है क्या कहते है, छोडो भाई, दुकानदारी चल रही है, 120 के चार पीस चिकन के कौन देता है, जिसे विश्वास न हो थानो चौक से पहले जो पेट्रोल पम्प आता है, बस उससे 50 मीटर की दूरी पर ये ढाबा है, जहाँ मंदिर की जड़ मे मांस और दारू खुल्ले मे पी जाती है।

और इस लाइन मे जितने भी हॉम स्टे है, सब एक से बढ़कर एक नीच, हरा मी... कोई मुझसे ये पूछे की सबसे हरा मी कौन है तो सोचते सोचते अगला जन्म लेना पड़ेगा मुझे, और इन्हींक बीच एक ऐसा ढाबा है, ओहो, वो है असली पहाड़ी भाई.... इतनी खूबसूरत जंगल मे उसका ढाबा है, टेस्ट एक नंबर, और बंदे का व्यवहार,... वाह.... इसे कहते है पहाड़ी, मेरा पहाड़ी भाई....

अरे वो इंसान ही क्या जो दूसरो के व्यवहार के कारण बदल जाए, अपनी सभ्यता, अपनी शालीनता को दो चार हुडदंगियों, शराबीयों के कारण पूरा प्रदेश ही, दूसरे प्रदेशो नीचा दिखाने की होड़ मे लग जाओ...

और इन हरियाणा वाले जिनकी उम्र 40 साल के पार है, इन लोगो की लापरवाही के कारण आज हरियाणा का यूथ खराब हुआ है, जितने भी हरियाणा के गायक है, जो दारू और हथियारों के टॉपिक पर गाने बना बना कर पूरा यूथ खराब कर चुके है, इतने ही खून उबाल मार रहा है ती इन गायको हड्डी क्यों नहीं तोड़ी अभी तक...???.....?????

बताओ क्या तुम्हारी जिम्मेदारी नहीं बनती..????

और देव भूमि वालों किसी के कारण तुम भी बदल जाओ तो तुम काहे के देवभूमि वाले...??? महिला टूरिस्टॉ से बदतमीजी करते हुए तुम्हारी भी खूब वीडियो घूम रही है...
