✍Munir’s Briefcase: Reko Diq and the Auction of Balochistan. Pakistan calls it development. Balochistan sees it as extraction at gunpoint.
Reko Diq exposes Islamabad’s real model: sell Baloch land to Washington, reassure Beijing, and silence locals with military force. A state that cannot govern with consent is now trying to auction what it no longer fully controls.
An amazing analysis on "How Asim Munir sold Balochistan to the USA" by an Italian Journalist.

❗Reko Diq is important because it is no longer just a mining project. It has become a strategic asset sitting at the intersection of minerals, geography, great-power competition and Balochistan’s unresolved political conflict. Located in Chagai district of Balochistan, Reko Diq is considered one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper and gold deposits. Its significance comes from the scale of its reserves, the projected decades of production, and the rising global demand for copper, gold and critical minerals needed for semiconductors, missiles, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence infrastructure and energy transition technologies.
For Pakistan, Reko Diq is being projected as an economic lifeline. Islamabad sees it as a way to attract billions of dollars in foreign investment, improve its credibility with international lenders and present itself as a useful partner to Washington. For the United States, the project offers access to critical minerals in a region where China has already built deep influence through CPEC, Gwadar, Saindak and other extractive projects. For China, any American entry into Balochistan’s mineral belt is a strategic warning because it challenges Beijing’s long-standing economic and geopolitical footprint in the province.
However, Reko Diq is also important because it exposes Pakistan’s deepest contradiction. Islamabad wants to sell Balochistan as a secure investment destination while ruling it through militarisation, exclusion and coercion. For many Baloch, mines, roads and ports are not symbols of development. They are seen as instruments of occupation, built without consent and protected by military force. This makes Reko Diq a security risk, a political flashpoint and a reputational challenge for foreign investors.
In that sense, Reko Diq matters because it is not only about copper and gold. It is about who controls Balochistan, who profits from its resources and whether development imposed without consent can ever produce stability.

📍During the opening session of the 6th July Corps Commanders' Conference at GHQ, Rawalpindi, chaired by Failed Marshal Asim Munir, the Pakistan Army discussed the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).
⚠The conference was convened a day after the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) held large-scale protests on 5 July. However, the opening session focused on the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) rather than the current situation in Pakistan Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK).

Top LeT commander Zakir Ganie has been eliminated by SOG Shopian, along with the RR and CRPF, in a precisely executed operation.
As the DGP J&K rightly said: “You can run, but you can’t hide.” Those who choose the path of terrorism may evade justice temporarily, but persistence, intelligence, and operational excellence ensure that accountability eventually catches up.
Kudos to SOG Shopian, RR, and CRPF for their commitment, exceptional coordination, and courage. Respect to every member of the security forces who continues to stand on the front lines in defense of peace and security.

🚨 TTP Expands into Balochistan's Strategic Chaghi District
The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has announced that a militant group from Chaghi, led by Hafiz Saifullah Baloch, has pledged allegiance (Bay'ah) to TTP Emir Mufti Noor Wali Mahsud.
Why It Matters
Chaghi is home to the Reko Diq copper and gold project, one of Pakistan's most strategically important mining investments.
The development suggests TTP is seeking to expand its footprint into a district already affected by Baloch insurgent activity, potentially increasing security challenges around critical infrastructure and foreign investment.

🚨ISKP/LeT Death Squad's key operative Shafiq ur Rehman Mengal's compound is under attack in Khuzdar city. It has been more then two hours, firing & blasts continue in the area.
✍Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal: ISKP, LeT and LeJ Linkages
Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal, also known as Mir Shafiq Mengal, is a controversial pro-state Baloch tribal militia figure from Khuzdar/Wadh. His network connects tribal power, local armed coercion, sectarian militancy and transnational jihadist actors in Balochistan.
Mengal is the son of Naseer/Nasir Mengal, a former federal minister and caretaker chief minister of Balochistan. Around 2008, he founded the Baloch Musallah Difaee Tanzeem/Musallah Defah Tanzeem, projected as an anti-Baloch separatist force. The group became known as a death-squad-style militia involved in abductions, enforced disappearances, targeted killings and intimidation of Baloch nationalist activists.
His name also emerged in the 2014 Tootak/Khuzdar mass graves case. The commission did not prosecute him, but local accounts and witness narratives placed his men within the coercive ecosystem around the case.
Mengal’s ISKP connection is centred on Balochistan. He is linked to ISKP facilitation networks, safe-house support, arms movement, funding channels and logistical support around Khuzdar and Mastung. His name also surfaced in connection with militants tied to the Safoora Goth attack network, including shelter and support extended to facilitators.
Mengal’s LeT connection has two layers. The first is historical, from his time in a Deobandi seminary in Karachi where he came into contact with senior Lashkar-e-Taiba members and was pushed toward jihad in Kashmir. The second is operational, with his interaction with senior LeT figure Rana Mohammad Ashfaq reflecting coordination between LeT-linked actors and Mengal’s Balochistan network.
Mengal’s Lashkar-e-Jhangvi connection is older and more deeply embedded. His militant ecosystem has long overlapped with LeJ-linked anti-Shia networks, Taliban-linked actors and Al-Qaida-linked operatives. This makes LeJ a more structurally rooted part of his Balochistan network than LeT.
The key distinction is that LeJ provides the older sectarian-jihadist layer, LeT represents the Pakistan-backed transnational proxy layer, and ISKP represents the newer jihadist-operational layer in Balochistan. Mengal sits at the intersection of all three.
In March 2026, Mengal entered mainstream politics through the Pakistan Peoples Party and received a ticket for the NA-256 Khuzdar by-election after meeting President Asif Ali Zardari. This reflects the political mainstreaming of a militia-linked actor with connections to ISKP, LeT and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
Shafiq Mengal is best understood as a hybrid proxy node rather than a conventional militant commander. His value lies in tribal influence, armed manpower, local coercive reach, sectarian-jihadist linkages and access to Pakistan’s proxy ecosystem. In Balochistan, actors like Mengal allow the Pakistani state to outsource coercion while preserving deniability.
