🇮🇷/🇨🇳 Qalibaf: Iran sees ties with China as more than political or economic cooperation

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Iran views its relations with China as extending beyond political and economic cooperation, describing the relationship as an interaction between two major Asian civilizations.

“In the current international environment, where the world is facing complex challenges and rapid changes, cooperation between major civilizations and the Global South has taken on particular importance,” Qalibaf wrote.

Qalibaf said the Iranian people had demonstrated the depth of their power and resilience following what he described as the “third imposed war” against Iran, adding that the country’s resistance would usher in a new phase in Iran’s relations with friendly countries.

The Islamic Republic of Iran hopes to reach bilateral mechanisms with China within the framework of the 25-year cooperation agreement, Qalibaf said. Such mechanisms, he added, could deepen and accelerate bilateral engagement while also providing an opportunity to help shape a new regional order.

Iran believes its relations with China are not limited to political or economic cooperation, Qalibaf said. Rather, he described them as an example of interaction between two major Asian civilizations that could serve as a model for dialogue among civilizations, respect for differences and cooperation based on shared interests.

“In the current international system, where the world is facing complex challenges and rapid changes, cooperation between major civilizations and the Global South has taken on particular importance,” Qalibaf wrote.

He said Iran and the People’s Republic of China could use the capacities of their legislative institutions to support multilateralism, greater fairness in international relations, respect for cultural diversity and stronger cooperation among independent countries.

🇹🇭🌊 Bangkok declares a citywide flood disaster as thousands flee their homes.

Days of torrential rain have submerged neighbourhoods, roads and vehicles across Thailand’s capital, forcing residents to evacuate as floodwaters overwhelm parts of the city.

Nearly 4,900 people have been moved to shelters, while around 52,000 households have been affected. Some areas recorded more than 330mm of rain between Thursday and Sunday.

Floodwaters are beginning to recede, but several neighbourhoods remain inundated. Authorities are continuing drainage and relief operations as residents face damaged homes, disrupted transport and lost livelihoods.

Iran’s seven-day proposal calls for the release of frozen Iranian funds, sanctions relief and an end to the US naval blockade, followed by the reopening of Hormuz and renewed negotiations on the nuclear issue.

Washington, however, says any agreement must address Iran’s nuclear programme, with the two sides still divided over the timing and sequence of commitments.
