🇫🇷🇸🇦 France to Deploy Troops and Air Defenses to Saudi Arabia

France will deploy troops, radar systems and air-defense equipment to Saudi Arabia to protect the strategic oil hub of Yanbu, French President Emmanuel Macron has announced.

Macron said French forces would not take part in combat but would focus on protecting the key energy facility. The announcement came after Saudi Arabia said it intercepted six ballistic missiles targeting areas including Taif and Yanbu.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks on what they described as “sensitive targets” in Saudi Arabia, including Saudi Aramco infrastructure in Yanbu.

Saudi Arabia has also sought additional military support from Britain, Pakistan and other partners as attacks and pressure on its missile-defense capabilities increase.

🇸🇦🇹🇷🇵🇰 Saudi, Türkiye and Pakistan Plan Urgent Defence Talks Amid Yemen Escalation

Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan are preparing an urgent meeting of their military chiefs to discuss possible support for Riyadh as fighting with Yemen’s Houthis intensifies.

The move follows a meeting of the three countries’ foreign ministers in New York. Their Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, signed on August 7, states that an attack on one of the three countries is considered an attack on all three.

Saudi Arabia reported intercepting six ballistic missiles launched towards Taif and Yanbu, while the Houthis claimed missile and drone attacks on targets in Riyadh and Saudi Aramco facilities in Yanbu.

France has also offered defensive support, with President Emmanuel Macron announcing the deployment of troops, radar and air-defence systems to help protect Yanbu.

The escalation has also triggered a major humanitarian crisis, with UNHCR reporting more than 230,000 new displacements in Yemen since September.

Majueran, founding director of the Belt and Road Initiative Sri Lanka, writes that many BRICS members and Global South are seeking greater strategic autonomy, stronger representation and diversified economic and diplomatic partnerships rather than choosing a new geopolitical side.

She argues that BRICS cooperation is driven by practical interests, including access to more markets, investment partners, financing options and payment mechanisms. According to her, cooperation outside Western-led institutions does not automatically mean cooperation against the West.

Majueran says the goal is diversification rather than isolation, allowing countries to maintain relationships with different major powers while making decisions according to their own national interests.

With China set to assume the BRICS presidency and host the 19th BRICS Summit, she argues that Beijing will have an opportunity to turn priorities such as development, multilateralism and stronger Global South representation into practical outcome...

🇶🇦 Qatar Rejects Netanyahu’s UN Allegations, Accuses Israel of Deflecting From Gaza

Qatar has rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s accusation that Doha is running a campaign to influence global public opinion against Israel.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said the allegations were an attempt to divert attention from Israel’s actions and their humanitarian consequences in the occupied Palestinian territories. He also rejected claims that growing criticism of Israel, particularly among younger people, is the result of organized influence campaigns.

Al-Ansari said Israel should focus on its own policies, respect international law and take responsibility for its actions rather than blaming Qatar or other outside actors.
