🇵🇰⚔️🇦🇫 Sources say Pakistani border forces and the Taliban clashed

🇦🇫 Afghan news sources reported Sunday evening that small- and heavy-arms fire was heard in the border area between Aryub Zazi district in Afghanistan’s Paktia province and Pakistan’s Kurram district.

According to the sources, fighting was taking place in the Spina Shaga area of Aryub Zazi district in Paktia and the Teri Mangal area of Pakistan’s Kurram district. Local sources said Taliban and Pakistani forces were involved in the clashes.

The sources said Pakistani forces launched an operation in parts of Kurram district on Sunday, which later led to clashes with Taliban forces. The tensions apparently centered on the establishment of a military outpost.

Sources said sporadic exchanges of fire had also taken place between the two sides in the area the previous day.

The reported border clashes came a day after a terrorist attack at a mosque in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in the Kohat area, in which 31 civilian worshippers were killed and many others were wounded.

🇵🇰 Pakistan’s Ministry of Information said the attack originated in Afghanistan.

The Taliban and Pakistani officials had not commented on the border clashes at the time of publication.

The Afghanistan-Pakistan border has witnessed repeated tensions and clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani border forces in recent months. The establishment of border facilities, troop movements and disputes over border points have been among the main factors behind the clashes.

The latest escalation comes amid heightened tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, with the mosque attack and the subsequent border clashes adding to a series of security incidents and disputes along the two countries’ shared frontier.

The clashes have prompted mediation efforts by major regional countries, including Turkey, China and Qatar, but these efforts have so far produced no result.

Central Asian countries should develop domestic drone industries and expand regional cooperation to reduce their dependence on foreign suppliers, according to an analysis published by The Diplomat.

The article says countries including Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have increasingly turned to foreign-made drones, particularly from Turkey and Iran, for security needs. However, reliance on imported systems creates long-term dependencies on spare parts, maintenance, ammunition and technical support.

The analysis argues that Central Asian states have an opportunity to develop relatively low-cost drone technologies for military and civilian uses, including border surveillance, combating smuggling, monitoring water resources and securing major events.

The Diplomat says joint investment in research, education, training and drone production could strengthen regional security while reducing Central Asia’s dependence on major foreign powers.

🌍 BRICS NEW DELHI SUMMIT – Big Speeches, Cautious Outcomes, One Structural Problem

Xi called for BRICS to be a "pioneer." The declaration told a different story.

What stalled:

🔹 CBDC payments — expected breakthrough. The word "CBDC" doesn't appear in the final declaration

🔹 Contingent Reserve Arrangement — BRICS' would-be IMF alternative has never once been used. Non-dollar currency clause quietly disappeared

What's actually working — under the radar:

🔹 Trade among founding five doubled to $678B since 2020. Russia–India up eightfold

🔹 Russia–China settling 99.1% of trade in national currencies. Brazil just connected Pix to Russian and Chinese payment systems

🔹 New trade corridors bypassing Suez — shorter, cheaper, no Western chokepoints

🔹 Xi in India for first time in 7 years — border talks, rare earths resumed, flights restored

🇺🇸🇮🇷 Washington says the door remains open for Iran to return to negotiations.

US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said the Trump administration believes “time is on its side” in the conflict with Iran, while calling on Tehran to return to the negotiating table.

Waltz also rejected reports that Iran has demanded an end to US sanctions and reparations as conditions for renewed talks.

He argued that economic pressure has weakened Iran, while saying Washington hopes Tehran will return to diplomacy “peacefully.”

The remarks come as tensions remain high over the Strait of Hormuz and the wider US-Iran conflict.

🇶🇦🌍 Qatar warns the Iran war has sent “shock waves” far beyond the Middle East.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani described the economic fallout from the US-Israeli war on Iran as “an earthquake,” saying disruptions are affecting energy supplies, shipping routes, investment and regional security.

He called for a regional framework where sovereignty is respected and no state is left permanently exposed to insecurity.

Qatar also announced plans to invest more than $38 billion in domestic infrastructure over the next five years, while continuing efforts to mediate between Washington and Tehran.

With the UN General Assembly beginning this week, Middle East security and the global economic impact of the conflict are expected to remain major diplomatic issues.

A platform for middle powers: the emergence of P4M
The intensity of geopolitical shocks in the world economy is evidently starting to translate into a marked rise in country coalitions seeking to mitigate or by-pass the tensions between the great powers. 🇹🇷🇺🇸 Türkiye is seeking a way out of the CAATSA–S-400 dispute ahead of Erdogan-Trump talks.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Ankara and Washington are exploring “creative ideas” to resolve the S-400 issue and lift US defence sanctions on Türkiye.

Fidan said CAATSA sanctions remain an obstacle for Türkiye’s Presidency of Defence Industries, while details of the proposed solutions have not been disclosed.

The dispute dates back to Türkiye’s purchase of Russia’s S-400 air defence system. Washington imposed CAATSA sanctions in 2020 and removed Türkiye from the F-35 programme in 2019.

Trump had pledged in July to lift the sanctions, saying the US does not want to sanction its allies.
