China's independently developed "Linghang" shield machine, the world's largest-diameter high-speed rail tunnel boring machine, has successfully completed the under-river section of the Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel. The project set a global record with an 11.325 km continuous under-river excavation by a 15-meter-class shield machine.
Once operational, the tunnel will bring high-speed rail to Chongming Island for the first time and cut travel time between Chongming and Shanghai Baoshan Station to just 17 minutes.
