Engineers have unveiled a tiny autonomous drone designed to hunt mosquitoes and other insects mid-air.

Weighing just 40 grams, the prototype uses microphones, ultrasonic sensors, and AI-powered software to detect, track, and intercept flying insects.

The developers recently demonstrated their first successful mid-air insect takedown (they got a moth this time). They say future swarms of the drones could one day help reduce mosquito populations over large areas.

For now, though, that remains an ambition rather than a proven capability, as the system has yet to be tested at scale in real-world conditions
