A bonfire topped with a replica mosque was set alight in Northern Ireland despite a police operation aimed at removing the display beforehand.
The structure, built for Eleventh Night celebrations ahead of the annual July 12 Orange Order parades, featured a model mosque bearing the words "Islamic fascism," along with anti-immigration banners and other political displays.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland described the display as a hate-motivated incident and launched an operation to remove it before the bonfire was lit. A 56-year-old man has since been charged with stirring up hatred.
