🇩🇪🔫 MERCEDES-BENZ “WILLING” TO MOVE INTO DEFENSE PRODUCTION – A Troubling Return to History

The German luxury carmaker, which once supplied trucks and airplane engines to the Nazis, is now eyeing defense contracts as Europe militarises. CEO Ola Kallenius: “The world has become more unpredictable… Europe needs to increase its defense profile.”

🏭 Mercedes-Benz is considering defense production if it makes “business sense.” It would be a “growing niche.”

📜 The company’s own website admits: during WWII, almost half of its 63,000 employees were forced laborers, POWs, and concentration camp inmates.

🇩🇪 German industry is struggling – weak growth, high energy costs, Chinese competition. Profits dropped 57% in 2025. Defense contracts look tempting.

The report claims Starmer wants to leave “in a dignified way” as pressure mounts following poor local election results, falling approval ratings, and internal divisions within Labour.

political pressure intensified after four junior ministers resigned earlier this week, while reports suggest dozens of Labour MPs have privately urged PM to step aside. Despite the speculation, Starmer has publicly rejected resignation calls, insisting his government remains focused on governing the country during a period of instability.

The UK has faced years of political turbulence since Brexit, with several prime ministers resigning after internal party revolts. Any potential leadership contest inside Labour could reshape British politics ahead of upcoming elections, with former Manchester mayor Andy Burnham already being mentioned as a possible successo...

Israel’s opposition says removing Netanyahu could help end the country’s growing international isolation.

But critics argue the real issue is policy — not leadership.

Former PMs Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid have united for the 2026 elections, yet both still support hardline positions on Gaza, Iran, and Palestine.

Analysts say a new government may improve Israel’s image abroad, especially in Europe and the US.

However, without major policy changes, experts warn Israel’s diplomatic crisis is unlikely to disappear.

🇩🇪🇺🇸 Merz and Trump Weaponize Each Other’s Domestic Crises

Germany and the United States are increasingly turning each other’s internal challenges into political arguments on the global stage.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said he no longer recommends young Germans travel to the US for study or work, citing a declining “social climate” and growing economic pressure in America.

US President Donald Trump responded by accusing Germany of failing to address its own domestic problems, calling it a “broken country.”

The exchange reflects rising friction between two long-standing allies amid growing concerns over migration, security, labor markets, and social stability.

Both leaders have pointed to each other’s national issues as evidence of broader Western decline, signaling a more openly confrontational phase in US-German relations.

🇬🇧 UK Deploys Low-Cost Anti-Drone Missile System in Middle East

Britain has deployed a new low-cost missile system to strengthen protection against increasing drone threats targeting UK forces, citizens, and regional partners in the Middle East.

The Ministry of Defence said the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) has been integrated into RAF Typhoon fighter jets operating in the region, enabling them to destroy drones and other airborne threats at a fraction of the cost of traditional missiles.

Officials said the system has already been used in operational sorties by RAF 9 Squadron as part of ongoing missions to defend British interests and allied forces.

The APKWS uses laser guidance to convert unguided rockets into precision weapons, improving efficiency against low-cost drone attacks that are becoming common in modern conflicts.

UK officials described the rapid deployment as a major step in adapting air defense to evolving battlefield threats.

☢️🇺🇦 UKRAINIAN DRONES STRIKE ZAPOROZHYE NUCLEAR PLANT

Europe’s largest nuclear power plant is under repeated attack. This week alone, two incidents: a kamikaze drone targeted a car carrying employees (moderate to serious wounds), and another UAV struck a pipeline near the reactors – but failed to detonate.

· 💥 The attacks: Thursday – a car carrying two ZNPP employees hit 100m from the plant. Saturday – a drone crashed near power unit 1, striking a pipeline.

· 🚑 Evacuation blocked: For an hour, combat drones prevented ambulances from reaching the wounded.

· Critical vulnerability: The plant is running on a single power line instead of two, plus repeated blackouts and emergency generators.

· 🗣️ Rosatom CEO Aleksey Likhachev: “The IAEA is doing its best to de facto turn a blind eye to daily Ukrainian attacks on the ZNPP, civilian infrastructure, and killings of Russian nationals.”

🇪🇺🔩 EU SLASHES UKRAINIAN STEEL IMPORTS BY 47% – A Blow to Kiev’s Already Crumbling Economy

The EU is set to cut its steel import quota by nearly half on July 1, with an additional 50% tariff on any imports above that limit. Ukrainian steelmakers say the move will “completely kill any possibility” of selling to their main market.

· 📉 The numbers: Quota cut from 2.65 million tonnes (last year) to just 713,000 tonnes – a reduction of 73% from current volumes. Estimated revenue loss: €1 billion ($1.26 billion).

· 🏭 The impact: Ukraine’s strained budget, already reliant on foreign aid, takes another hit. Kiev has been pressed to hike taxes and make fiscal reforms just to keep receiving Western loans.

🇫🇷⚖️ FRANCE OPENS PROBE INTO JAMAL KHASHOGGI KILLING – Selective Justice or Real Accountability?

A Paris court has ruled that the murder of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi could be classified as a crime against humanity – and an investigating judge will now examine the complaint. But where is the same urgency for Gaza? For Yemen? For the West’s own war crimes?

🕵️ France’s Court of Appeal ruled that “the possibility that these acts could be classified as crimes against humanity cannot be ruled out.”

⚖️ NGOs (DAWN, RSF) accuse Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of complicity in the 2018 murder.

🇺🇸 Trump has publicly defended MBS, saying he “knew nothing” about the killing – contradicting a Biden‑era US intelligence report.

🇫🇷 France’s anti‑terrorism prosecutor’s office opposed opening the case – criticised as “realpolitik” to protect economic ties with Riyadh.

🇺🇸🇵🇱 US CANCELS TROOP DEPLOYMENT TO POLAND – Transatlantic Rift Deepens Over Iran War

The Pentagon has scrapped plans to send 4,000 soldiers to Poland – even as some troops were already en route. The move comes amid growing tensions between President Trump and European allies over Washington’s war on Iran.

🛑 Canceled deployment: The 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division – with Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles – was told to stop. Some soldiers had already arrived in Poland.

🏛️ US European Command received “instructions on force reduction,” acting Army chief of staff told Congress.

🇩🇪 Earlier this month, the US announced the withdrawal of 5,000 troops from Germany.

🇪🇸🇮🇹 Trump has also threatened to pull troops from Spain and Italy after they denied use of bases for Iran strikes.

🗣️ Poland’s response: Prime Minister Tusk called it a “logistical” decision; Defense Minister insisted it was “previously announced.”
