Bangladesh is moving ahead with the massive $2.8 billion Padma Barrage project because it no longer fully trusts diplomacy alone to secure enough water from India.

The project aims to store monsoon water from the Padma River and release it during dry seasons, when southwest Bangladesh faces severe water shortages, salinity, and river decline.

The article says the move is deeply connected to long-standing tensions over India’s Farakka Barrage and the 1996 Ganges Water Sharing Treaty, which expires in December 2026.

Experts warn the barrage cannot solve everything because Bangladesh still depends on upstream water flow from India. Critics also fear sediment buildup, high costs, and weak feasibility planning could hurt the project.

Overall, the article presents the Padma Barrage as both:

a climate and water-security project,

and a sign of Bangladesh’s declining confidence in future water-sharing negotiations with India.

BRICS is no longer just symbolism.

South Africa says the “Global South is rising” — and the West can no longer ignore it.

At the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, South African FM Ronald Lamola delivered a direct message:

The era of Western dominance is fading.

According to Lamola, BRICS is already reshaping the global order through real development financing.

South Africa received BRICS-backed loans for:
— logistics infrastructure
— water crisis management
— national development projects

Not promises.

Actual funding.

On Trump-era tariffs and global trade wars, Pretoria sees opportunity instead of crisis:

Diversify.
Trade in local currencies.
Reduce dependence on Western financial systems.

But on a BRICS common currency?

“For now, it’s trade.”

Lamola also backed permanent UN Security Council seats for:
— India
— Brazil
— Two African nations

Calling the current world order “post-colonial and outdated.

🇺🇸🇨🇳🇮🇷 TRUMP LANDS FROM BEIJING – HERE’S WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED 📋

The US president returns from his China trip with plane orders, nuclear ultimatums, and a studied ambiguity that leaves every flashpoint unresolved.

🔴 On Iran – Rejection, PR, and a Nuclear Dust Ultimatum

Rejected Tehran’s proposal – Trump “didn’t like the first sentence” and threw it away.

💣 Uranium removal is “more for PR than anything else” – but he still demands it. Iran told him: only the US or China has the equipment to remove the nuclear dust. Trump’s answer: “At the right time, we’ll either go in or we’ll get it.”

🕊️ Ceasefire? He says he wouldn’t have agreed – only did it as a favour to Pakistan.

Still threatening: “We’ll go back and finish them off.”
