Russian President Vladimir Putin used his Victory Day parade speech on Red Square to declare that Russia “sacredly honors” the legacy of those who secured victory in the Great Patriotic War, calling Victory Day the country’s most important and sacred holiday.
Putin said Russia remembers the resilience of Soviet soldiers, the sacrifice of civilians, and the unity of the front line and home front during World War II. He stressed that the Soviet people made the decisive contribution to defeating Nazism, adding that their feat would always remain part of Russia’s national memory.
He also linked that wartime legacy to the present, saying participants in Russia’s special military operation are continuing the mission of defending the country.
