🌍 GLOBAL UPDATE: War with Iran pushes oil above $100, raising US recession fears

Oil prices have surged above $100 per barrel after the US-Israel war with Iran disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for more than 20% of global oil supply.

Experts warn prices could climb as high as $200 per barrel if the strait remains closed and tanker traffic cannot resume.

Higher energy costs are already pushing up petrol prices in the US, raising concerns about inflation, supply chain disruptions, and a possible recession or stagflation if the conflict drags on.

Analysts say the economic impact will depend largely on how quickly oil shipments return to the Gulf routes.

🇯🇵 Japan says it won’t deploy minesweepers to the Strait of Hormuz during the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict, citing limits under its pacifist constitution.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Japan could only help clear sea mines after the war ends, when the mines would be considered abandoned.

Japan is heavily dependent on Middle East oil and has announced it will release 80 million barrels from strategic reserves to stabilize supply.

Takaichi is also set to meet Donald Trump on March 19 to discuss efforts to calm tensions in the Middle East.

The mines are reportedly near the critical shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large share of the world’s oil passes.

BREAKING: 🇳🇵 Rapper-turned-politician Balendra Shah wins Nepal landslide

Balendra Shah, former rapper and Kathmandu mayor, secured a near two-thirds majority in Nepal’s parliament, with 182 of 275 seats for his Rastriya Swatantra Party.

The Nepali Congress won 38 seats, while veteran leader Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli’s party took just 25. Shah defeated Oli in his own constituency, marking a generational shift in Nepalese politics.

Shah’s victory follows last year’s youth-led protests against corruption and stagnation, reflecting the rising influence of younger voters in a country where over 40% of the population is under 35.

UPDATE: 🇦🇺 Australia joins Middle East conflict

Australia will deploy an E-7A Wedgetail reconnaissance aircraft and air-to-air missiles to the Gulf in support of UAE self-defence, amid the US-Israel-Iran war.

PM Anthony Albanese and FM Penny Wong stress this is “defensive” action, but legal experts say Australia is now legally a party to the conflict.

Wedgetail crews are considered combatants under international law and may be targeted by Iranian forces. The move aligns with Article 51 of the UN Charter on collective self-defence.

🚨 UPDATE 🇹🇭 Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has claimed victory in the country’s general election after preliminary results showed his conservative Bhumjaithai Party leading by a wide margin.

With about 90% of votes counted, Bhumjaithai is projected to win 194 seats in the 500-seat parliament. The reformist People’s Party is expected to come second with 116 seats, while Pheu Thai may secure 86 seats.

Although no party appears to have won an outright majority, Anutin is now likely to remain prime minister by forming a coalition government.

The election result surprised many analysts, as opinion polls had predicted a stronger showing from the reformist opposition.

📊 A separate referendum held alongside the election indicates around 65% support for reforming Thailand’s 2017 military-era constitution.

🇮🇷🇪🇺 Europe backed a war it wasn't consulted on. Now it's paying for it.

Britain opened its bases. Germany cheered. France deployed warships. Italy offered its airfields.

None of them were in the room when the decision was made.

Why the compliance? Europe replaced Russian gas with American LNG after Ukraine. It still depends on American weapons to deter Russia.

And an entire generation of European leaders grew up never learning to think independently.

🚨 UPDATE | Israel–Iran Conflict : Some observers say the pattern of Israeli airstrikes in Gaza and Tehran appears increasingly similar.

In both cases, analysts suggest Israel may be relying heavily on AI-assisted targeting systems to identify potential military or government-linked sites. Critics warn that such systems could risk misidentifying locations if not carefully reviewed by human operators.

For example, reports indicate that a location known as “Police Park” in Tehran was struck during Israeli attacks. Despite the name, the site is reportedly a public park rather than an active police facility. This has raised questions among commentators about how targets are selected and verified.

There is no independent confirmation yet that AI misidentification caused the strike.

🔎 The Israeli military has previously acknowledged using AI-supported tools for intelligence analysis and target identification, but states that human oversight remains part of the process.

🚨 Iran urges BRICS to support regional & global security 🌍

Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi called on the BRICS bloc to play a constructive role in stabilizing the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict with the US & Israel. He also stressed the need for international bodies to condemn military aggression against Iran.

The call with Indian FM S. Jaishankar comes after a US-Israeli attack that reportedly killed over 1,300 people, including Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has since retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US forces.
