French startup Ynsect—known for producing insect-based protein meal—has ended up in court-ordered liquidation after years of heavy financing, including EU-linked public funding.
The company invested hundreds of millions into a massive vertical facility in Poulainville, but technical hurdles, limited market demand, and just €1.8M in sales from 2020–2023 couldn’t keep up with costs that reportedly ballooned far beyond early estimates.
Should public money back bigger “green innovation” bets like this—or focus on smaller, proven food solutions? 🤔💬

A Russian combat laser system developed by Laserbuzz under the Posokh program destroyed an FPV drone at a distance of 1 km for the first time, surpassing its previous record of 700 m
The design and evolution of these anti-drone systems at the level of small domestic startups (which the company is) is still ongoing — and that matters
The laser’s power is estimated at around 3 kW. This is not enough to effectively engage large cruise missiles or heavy UAVs at ranges of 7–10 km, but it is already capable of destroying kamikaze UAVs equipped with Starlink terminals at distances of 1–1.5 km, and of damaging the optics of reconnaissance drones at much greater ranges
