BRICS vs G7: Is the balance of power quietly shifting? 🌍⚖️

The updated 2025 GDP charts show a world economy still led in size by the US and other G7 countries, but with BRICS and BRICS+ steadily increasing their overall weight in global output. At the same time, Japan’s share of world GDP continues to decline, while China appears to have peaked around 2021 and is now slightly losing share, adding nuance to the “unstoppable rise” narrative. When you look at blocs instead of single countries, the contrast between an aging, slower‑growing G7 and a more demographically dynamic BRICS+ becomes even more striking, raising questions about future influence over trade rules, finance, and global governance.

🌍 What changes would you expect to see in your own life if BRICS currencies, banks, or standards became more influential worldwide?

Power, Water 💧 & a New Nile Order? 🌍

For decades, Egypt shaped the Nile Basin’s rules, but a new article argues that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is rewiring that power balance through hegemonic stability theory. It frames GERD not just as a mega-dam, but as a “structural earthquake” that challenges old hydro-hegemony and pushes the region toward more equitable water sharing. The analysis explores whether Ethiopia’s “challenger” role can transform unilateral control into a more cooperative, multilateral framework for the whole basin.

Do you see GERD as a step toward fairer regional development, or a source of long-term instability on the Nile? 🤔 How should Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan balance national security with shared benefits for millions living along the river? 💬

Air India has finally located a plane that somehow went missing for 13 years, and yes, there’s a bill attached

The airline admitted it misplaced a Boeing 737-200 at Kolkata Airport back in 2012

The jet basically vanished from company records — and apparently from executives’ memory too — until the airport contacted Air India in November asking them to remove it

That reminder came with a parking fine of nearly 10 million rupees (about $112,000), which the airline paid

Sanctions served cold, but this one’s spicy:

Beijing imposed sanctions Friday on 20 U.S. defense-related companies and 10 executives, a week after Washington approved a $10 billion arms-sale package to Taiwan

The sanctions freeze the companies’ assets in China and bar individuals and organizations from doing business with them
Affected firms include Northrop Grumman, L3Harris Maritime Services, and Boeing, while Anduril founder Palmer Luckey is among the executives sanctioned

China says the move is a response to U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, which it claims as its own territory, and warns of consequences for involvement with the listed companies
