What is The Venus Project’s role?

The Venus Project’s role has passed through multiple phases. The initial work consisted of conjuring the vision of a better world for all people. This was followed by a phase of international popularization and advocacy, often referred to as β€œspreading awareness”. The Venus Project is currently in a phase of curation whereby we filter and select the most opportune and pertinent information and personnel fit to assist with subsequent plans for implementation. This phase entails that The Venus Project use its brand notoriety and experience to provide facilitation, platforming, and leadership to others working within the community space of sustainable futures.

What differentiates The Venus Project from other projects?

The Venus Project has earned the distinction of presenting the most integrative vision of the future, at the largest scale and broadest scope, that is not just science fiction but rather a sincere agenda to implement. It is this integrativeness, TVP’s longevity, global reach, daring ambition, and the prolific output of its principal innovator, Jacque Fresco, that sets TVP apart from other projects.

How does The Venus Project compare to historical ideologies?

The Venus Project is a transdisciplinary project. Therefore, it owes its nature to no single category. The Venus Project proposes systems structured according to the latest discoveries of all sciences. This mitigates the risk of ideology. The human social system shall be structured according to what the science says, not any past ideology.

What is The Venus Project’s proposal?

The Venus Project proposes self-sufficient human habitats at multiple scales and developed in parallel according to data-driven scenario planning and contingency management. The three scales of local, regional, and global each require different assumptions with regard to resource constraints and time pressures. The Venus Project advocates investment in all three approaches to constitute a comprehensive strategy for adaptation and theory of change toward a resilient outcome. This will require collaboration across a wide range of stakeholders and visionary projects.

From our recommended reading list: "Overshoot: The Ecological Basis of Revolutionary Change" by William R. Catton

This seminal work by ecologist, William Catton, was among the first to identify the species-level disorder known as 'overshoot' β€” when a species exceeds the carrying capacity of its environment or, in the context of human global civilization, what others have called the 'planetary boundaries'. In this book, Catton articulates the observation and ramifications of excessive growth earlier predicted by the Limits to Growth study in 1972 and again in 1992 and 2004.
