✳️ Why is handwriting important ✳️

These days, screens and keyboards are becoming more big/important/fundamental than handwriting.

But experts say that handwriting is very important for our memory, thinking, and also academic success/achievement/accomplishment. The question is whether children should continue to practice writing. Some studies suggest that handwriting helps develop our brains, especially for young children. Moreover, if you write well, it can lead to better grades at school. Writing helps children link/connect/associate letters with sounds, which is good/healthy/beneficial for the brain.

Research suggests that physically writing something down improves working memory, which is something typing on a keyboard cannot do. So/Therefore/Consequently, using pencil and paper may be more beneficial than typing on a phone.

✳️ Problems with bottled water ✳️

Around 800 million of people around the world have no way/access/entry to safe water to drink. For many others, it is a normal thing.

Bottled water is the most popular drink in the US, but many problems come with the drink. Some cities have only bottled water, as the pipes for tap water are too old/aged/antiquated. Bottled water is much more expensive than tap water. At the same/exact/identical time, tap water is safer, and bottled water has a very bad impact on the natural world.

A factory normally/usually/ordinarily needs three liters of water to make one liter of bottled water. Also, to make bottles, it is necessary to burn/combust/incinerate oil. To make bottled water requires 2,000 times more energy than tap water requires.

✳️ Kamala Harris starts her campaign ✳️

US Vice President Kamala Harris started her campaign to replace/take over/succeed Joe Biden in November's election. Biden ended/stopped/halted his campaign only a few days ago. Harris had her first rally in Wisconsin, a state which is important for both Democrats and Republicans. Many people came to see her, and she talked about supporting democracy.
Harris went to/visited/toured Wisconsin five times this year, and Biden talked about Wisconsin in his speech too. Last week, many Republicans were at their National Convention there. Since Biden supported Harris, she has raised 100 million dollars.

The campaign is moving fast. Harris's backers/supporters/advocates want to end the war in Gaza. This election is not only about Trump. It is about what people think/believe in/stand for.

✳️ Sustainable cork ✳️

Cork harvesting in Portugal is a trained/skilled/adept job. Workers like Carlos Feras do it every summer. They carefully/gently/meticulously peel the bark from cork trees without hurting them. The bark grows back slowly/gradually/incrementally, and farmers can only harvest it every nine years. Portugal is the biggest cork producer in the world and cork farming is very important for the local economy. Cork is in high demand because it is good for the environment.

Antonio Jose Matos started harvesting cork 43 years ago. He says the job is hard but good/rewarding/gratifying. People use cork for many things, from wine corks to insulation. Researchers are looking at cork as a green option/alternative/substitute to other materials. The industry needs more workers, but fewer people want to do this job.

✳️ Explosion at Yellowstone National Park ✳️

A hydrothermal boom/explosion/eruption at Yellowstone National Park surprised visitors.

Steam, rock, and dirt shot into the sky, and people started running away/escaping/fleeing. No one was hurt, but the explosion damaged a path in the Biscuit Basin area, and authorities had to close it. Similar/Alike/Analogous explosions happen when underground water turns to steam. They are usual in Yellowstone and happened before in 1959, 1991, and 2009. Minerals blocking an underground pipe could cause the last explosion.

It is hard to guess/predict/forecast these events because they can happen suddenly. Park officials and scientists will check if the explosion changed the underground system. They will look at the water and temperature of nearby geysers. There are no marks/signs/indications of changes in the volcanic system, and the park is safe.
