Maria Zakharova writes:

IAEA head Rafael Grossi stated, "The use of depleted uranium munitions does not result in significant radiological consequences. From a nuclear safety perspective, there are no significant radiological consequences."

Mr. Grossi is undoubtedly correct in asserting that, from the standpoint of "nuclear safety," there are no substantial radiological consequences. However, it's evident that he isn't providing the complete picture, and this deliberate or unintentional omission of information is unacceptable.

The reality is that depleted uranium, being a heavy metal, poses an extreme danger to both humans and the environment due to its chemical toxicity, particularly when employed in munitions. Such usage generates highly toxic aerosols. It's regrettable that Mr. Grossi did not include in his remarks the fact that when depleted uranium rods penetrate armor, they heat up and can potentially ignite. Even more concerning is the behavior of the cladding of a depleted uranium shaped charge in this regard.

Perhaps this topic falls outside Mr. Grossi's expertise as the head of the IAEA, and it should be directed to chemists who can enlighten us on the detrimental effects of heavy metal accumulation on the environment and human health.

Господин Гросси, конечно прав, говоря о том, что, с точки зрения «ядерной безопасности» нет значительных радиологических последствий. Просто он явно не договаривает. И такое вольное или невольное замалчивание проблемы недопустимо.

Дело в том, что обедненный уран, как тяжелый металл, чрезвычайно опасен для человека и окружающей среды с точки зрения химической токсичности. Особенно когда он используется в составе боеприпасов, так как при их применении будут образовываться крайне токсичные аэрозоли. Жаль, что господин Гросси не дополнил свой комментарий информацией о том, что при пробитии брони стержень из обедненного урана нагревается и может воспламениться. Еще хуже в этом смысле ведет себя облицовка кумулятивного снаряда из обедненного урана.

Возможно, это за рамками компетенции господина Гросси как главы МАГАТЭ. И данный вопрос надо адресовать химикам, которые расскажут о пагубном влиянии накопления тяжелых металлов на экологию и здоровье человека.

IAEA experts at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant have reported a "large number of explosions" and "increased military activity" over the past week.

According to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, as reported by the BBC, the situation remains unstable.

Seeing perfectly well from which side the nuclear power plant is being shelled, the "experts" are carefully silencing the truth about the actions of the Kyiv regime.

Zaporizhzhya NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
