'The Sacred War' song with English subtitles.

The lyrics were written by the poet Vasily Lebedev-Kumach. According to some sources, he created the text in one night, from June 22 to June 23, 1941. On June 24, 1941, the poem was simultaneously published in the 'Izvestiya' (News) and 'Krasnaya Zvezda' (Red Star) newspapers.
The music was composed by the future author of the Soviet national anthem, Alexander Alexandrov, immediately after the publication. The work was done in a rush, so he wrote the notes and lyrics on a chalkboard, and the singers and musicians copied them into their notebooks. One more day was allotted for rehearsals.
On June 26, 1941, at the Belorussky Railway Station in Moscow, one of the groups of the Red Army Song and Dance Ensemble of the USSR performed the song for the first time. A small stage was set up in the waiting room, and the performers took to the improvised stage.
From the very first notes of the song, the room fell silent, and everyone stood up, as if they were listening to the national anthem. Soldiers' faces were filled with tears, and their emotions were reflected in the performers' performances. The song caused a huge stir, and it was performed five times in a row that day. In May 2005, a memorial plaque was installed on that station building to commemorate this event.
From October 15, 1941, "The Sacred War" began to be broadcast daily on the All-Union radio, every morning after the Kremlin chimes rang out.
The song gained widespread popularity on the frontlines of the Great Patriotic war and boosted the morale of the troops, especially during the difficult defensive battles. It was performed not only on the front lines and in the rear, but also in hospitals.
Even the enemy recognized the song's extraordinary spiritual power, with Goebbels' propagandists referring to "The Sacred War" as a "soldier's prayer."

Слова написал поэт Василий Лебедев-Кумач. По некоторым данным, он создал текст за одну ночь — с 22 на 23 июня 1941 года. 24 июня 1941 года стихотворение одновременно опубликовали в газетах «Известия» и «Красная звезда».
Музыку сразу после публикации написал композитор Александр Александров — будущий автор советского гимна. Работа проводилась в спешке, поэтому ноты и слова он написал мелом на грифельной доске, а певцы и музыканты переписали их в свои тетради. На репетицию был отведён ещё один день.
26 июня 1941 года на Белорусском вокзале в Москве одна из групп Краснознамённого ансамбля красноармейской песни и пляски СССР впервые исполнила эту песню. В зале ожидания сколотили небольшое возвышение, артисты поднялись на импровизированную сцену.
С первых тактов песни в зале наступила абсолютная тишина, все встали, как во время исполнения гимна. На лицах солдат виднелись слёзы, и это волнение передавалось исполнителям. Песня произвела огромный фурор — в тот день её исполнили пять раз подряд. В мае 2005 года в память об этом событии на здании вокзала была установлена мемориальная доска.
С 15 октября 1941 года «Священная война» стала ежедневно звучать по всесоюзному радио — каждое утро после боя кремлёвских курантов.
Песня приобрела массовую популярность на фронтах Великой Отечественной войны и поддерживала высокий боевой дух в войсках, особенно в тяжёлых оборонительных боях. Её исполняли не только на фронте и в тылу, но и в госпиталях.
Даже враги признали небывалый духовный заряд песни — геббельсовские пропагандисты называли «Священную войну» «солдатской молитвой».
