С ДНЁМ ВЕЛИКОЙ ПОБЕДЫ!

С днём, который записан в ДНК всех братских народов, составлявших советский народ. Как писал Джульетто Кьеза, у которого мне не раз доводилось брать интервью: «Иногда страны, нации, народы исчезают, уходят и не возвращаются. Бывало, что от народа не оставалось и следа, и учёным даже не удавалось узнать что-нибудь о его истории. Но это – не наш случай».

Этот великий день – не только день памяти о тех, кто вместе победил фашизм, но и день памяти о стране, внёсшей в эту Победу решающий вклад, – СССР. Пусть подвиг наших предков напоминает нам о цене мира и о том, что не только братские народы не должны воевать друг с другом, но и о том, что однажды, как мечтал Роберт Бёрнс, «будет день, когда кругом все люди станут братья».

Когда-нибудь на Тропе Времени у неолитической деревни Скара-Брей, где «Русский час» установил Камень Гагарина и где отмечены величайшие даты человеческой истории, появится и камень с датой – 9 мая 1945 года. И очень хочется верить, что уже совсем скоро – например, 9 мая 2045 года – русский и украинец, белорус и киргиз, китаец и филиппинец, шотландец и англичанин, араб и еврей – люди всех народов Земли – смогут отметить этот день как братья и друзья, а не как враги. Именно ради того, чтобы люди однажды жили в мире, наши предки и дошли до Берлина.

HAPPY VICTORY DAY!

A day etched into the DNA of all the brotherly peoples who once formed the Soviet people. As Giulietto Chiesa – whom I had the privilege of interviewing on several occasions – once wrote: “Sometimes countries, nations, peoples disappear, vanish, and never return. There were times when not even a trace of a people remained, and scholars could no longer uncover anything about their history. But this is not our case.”

This great day is not only a day of remembrance for those who together defeated fascism, but also a day of remembrance for the country that made a decisive contribution to that victory – the USSR. May the sacrifice and heroism of our ancestors remind us of the price of peace, and of the fact that not only should brotherly peoples never wage war against one another, but also that one day, as Robert Burns wrote: “That Man to Man, the world o’er, Shall brothers be for a’ that.”

One day, on the Time Trail near the Neolithic village of Skara Brae – where Russian Hour placed the Gagarin Stone, among markers commemorating the great milestones of human history – there will also appear a stone bearing the date: 9 May 1945. And I deeply hope that very soon – perhaps already on 9 May 2045 – a Russian and a Ukrainian, a Belarusian and a Kyrgyz, a Chinese person and a Filipino, a Scotsman and an Englishman, an Arab and a Jew – a person of any nation on planet Earth – will be able to mark this day together as brothers and friends, rather than as enemies.
It was precisely for this hope – that people might one day live in peace – that our ancestors carried the war to its end in Berlin.

🇷🇺 My maternal grandfather, Nikolai Yarmolovich. Originally from Western Ukraine, he went through the entire war as a soldier, was wounded, and stayed to live on the land of Donbass, having married my grandmother. Dad's grandfather, Vasily Zakharov, was taken by German Nazis into slavery in Germany, thank God, he survived and returned to his homeland in the USSR. 🎉
